It had been a week since the chaos with the Lewis family, and Kimberley was back on duty. The adrenaline rush had faded, replaced by the familiar rhythm of daily work. Today, though, things were going to be low-key. She was scheduled for a simple patrol with Tim Bradford—no undercover operations, no intense drama. Just driving through the city, responding to routine calls. Kimberley welcomed the break.

As they pulled out of the precinct parking lot, Kimberley glanced over at Tim, who was, as always, hyper-focused on the road. He was the kind of guy who never seemed to turn off the "on-duty" switch, no matter how slow the day was.

"Feels a bit strange being back on a routine patrol," Kimberley said, breaking the silence. "Quiet, in a good way."

Tim smirked slightly, his eyes still scanning the street ahead. "Enjoy it while you can. Quiet doesn't last long around here."

Kimberley chuckled, nodding in agreement. She knew it wouldn't be calm for long. Still, today, she welcomed the peace. They'd already dealt with a couple of minor calls—nothing serious. The lull in action gave her time to think, and after a few minutes, she decided to break the ice a bit.

"You know, we've worked together for a bit now, but I feel like we've never really talked much about life outside the badge," she said, keeping her tone light but curious.

Tim glanced at her briefly before returning his focus to the road. "What's there to talk about?"

Kimberley smirked. "Well, I've noticed everyone seems to know me as Captain Andersen's daughter first. But I don't hear much about your life outside of work. It ever bug you that people just see the uniform?"

Tim's jaw tightened, a subtle reaction, but Kimberley caught it. "Comes with the territory," he said, his voice calm but guarded. "Keeps things simple."

She nodded, understanding that feeling all too well. "Yeah, I get that. Growing up with my mom  it was like I was always in her shadow.  The expectation to live up to her reputation—it's like no matter what I do, I'm always 'the captain's daughter.' It's exhausting sometimes."

Tim shot her a glance, his expression softening just a fraction. "Your mom's tough. But she's proud of you. You know that, right?"

Kimberley let out a small laugh, shaking her head. "She's proud, sure. But she also has a hard time showing it. It's like she's always watching, waiting for me to make the next right move. Doesn't make it easier when she's the captain of the same precinct I'm trying to make a name in."

Tim nodded, his gaze focused ahead, but Kimberley could tell he was listening carefully. After a pause, he spoke again, this time more personal than she expected. "I get it. Being tied to someone else's image—it's a lot."

She glanced over, sensing a shift in the conversation. "You're talking about your ex-wife, right?"

Tim's hands tightened slightly on the steering wheel, and for a moment, Kimberley thought she might've pushed too far. But then, he nodded. "Yeah. Isabel."
