A Memory, Part III

There were two more weeks left in the semester and today was my last tutoring session with Malakai for Chemistry. Since the showcase that happened a few weeks ago he has been acting really differently and I somehow feel that the distance between us has gotten smaller. But maybe it is just all in my head lately I've been a little delusional but whatever.

I got to the library and headed over to the private room where we do our sessions. When I walked in only one of my classmates was there and I gave him a little wave. He nodded back and I sat down taking out my notes and everything else I had. For some reason I wanted to show Malakai that I was prepared and a part of me wanted him to praise me for it. I heard people talking so I looked up and saw that it was Malakai and the other girl that was also in this session from my class.

They were a little too close for my liking but I tried to ignore it because there was no reason for me to be jealous. I rolled my eyes when she slapped his chest and started laughing unnecessarily hard at whatever he had said. Desperate. I looked at Malakai who just looked bored and wanted the whole thing to be over. This made me laugh and I tried to cover it up with a cough. When I looked back at them he was already staring at me. He looked down at the table and I could've sworn I saw him smile.

"Nyra, good job at being well prepared for our last session." I clenched my legs together at his praise.

I don't know what higher power is out there listening to me but thank you. I blushed and looked away. I was ready for this session to be over because I could not take being in close proximity with him. I saw Ms.Desperate huff when he ignored her and she even had the nerve to glare at me. I just shrugged my shoulders at her. Malakai passed out a mock test and told us that we were allowed to use our notes to complete it.

I was so focused on my test that I didn't realize the other two had gotten up and left because they had finished. When I realized that we were alone in the room I began to get a little self conscious. I was trying my hardest to focus and I completely lost it when Malakai came behind me and leaned down.

"Nyra." I visibly shuddered. I knew he knew that he affected me and he did these things on purpose because he knew how I would react.

"Malakai." I heard him click his tongue but he didn't say anything. I dropped my pencil and turned my head to look at him but I didn't realize he was so close to me and our lips almost touched. He stayed there for a moment just looking at me. Then he stood back up and went to his seat and started packing his things.

"We don't have the room for much longer." He paused and then turned to look at me. "If you like we can continue this elsewhere." From his tone I could tell that he meant much more than me finishing this test.

I couldn't speak. Did I really want to jump on this opportunity with my best friend's brother? I wasn't sure. I know I had to start somewhere and I didn't want to keep wasting any more time, but it was Malakai. How would our relationship be if it didn't work out? So many thoughts were swirling in my head. I don't know how long I was quiet for but I knew that the window for this opportunity was closing rather quickly and if I didn't jump on it now I might lose it. Without thinking I responded.

"Okay." Malakai smiled and it was the first time I saw him smile, and oh boy did that smile do things to me.

"Pack up and follow me." I didn't waste any time and started packing my things away in a haste. Guess I am the desperate one now. I mentally facepalmed myself. I tried to slow down hoping that he didn't think that I was a weirdo. When I got done I noticed that he was already waiting for me at the door. "Finished?" I nodded my head and walked over to him, and just as he said I started following him.
