Jade;
The morning came quick as it typically does for me; the sun shining through the sheer curtains. I roll over in bed grabbing my phone re-calling a few of the events last night. I remember working of course, I also remember a man covered in tattoos I think his name was max, not entirely sure; I did pop a Xanax before I locked up the bar, it helps me sleep and keeps the night terrors at bay.
I also remember being taken home, but max wasn't by himself, he had a friend, a morally dark man I could feel it from the back seat. I couldn't see much of him last night much less even recall what his name was. He was intimidating, dark, mysterious in his own way and I can't help but say I kinda fucking liked it.
Knowing last night is probably the only night I'll ever see either of them, I mind as well just forget anything happened.
" ah fuck.." I mumble to myself realizing the inevitable
My car is still at the bar broken down because of a bad starter, fuck that car. I sigh getting out of bed and stretching infront of the window letting the sun warm my skin. I slip on my red silk robe that came just mid way of my thighs and head into the bathroom.
As I do my face routine as well as make up routine my brain can't help but go back to the events of last night.
My heart beated wildly as I got into the back seat of the car; the rain making my clothes slightly damp. I slide into the leather seat and say a quick thank you to the man in the front seat. His eyes catching mine in an intense stare as if he's reading my book; word for word, page for page, chapter by chapter. His voice is deep and raspy it nearly rattles my bones in a weird ass way. His face is covered by a mask only allowing me to see the tattoo across his forehead and his dark chocolate brown eyes.
I can tell he's big and toned, and telling by his hands he's covered in one massive black tattoo; which is actually kinda fitting because he is a what seems as though a dark man. We arrive at my house; the Xanax finally taking its full effect, I tell them goodbye stepping into the rain and making my way to the front door, unlocking it and turning to look at the vehicle one last time, smiling a little to myself.
It's probably just the Xanax from last night talking, but explain to me how I'm slightly attracted by a man who I have no idea what his name is, I never even saw his full face, just explain that. someone, anyone.
I shake it off as I finish up my make up and leave my room walking to the living room and of course as always turning on the news.
" reports of multiple gun shots near the 78th 2 reported dead on scene; so far no weapon has been found, we will keep everyone updated with the latest." I hear the news caster say as I make my coffee and order brunch from a little cafe down the road; seeing as how I just checked the time finally and seen it read 11:30am.
The violence in the city is just growing worse and some nights I wonder if I'll even make it home from the bar, which is why I'm thankful max and his friend were there. Some nights creepy men hang around the outside but once they realize I'm not coming out any time soon they disperse their separate ways. I do carry a gun, and a knife, and a taser, oh we can't forget the brass knuckles and pepper spray either, so really even if someone did try anything I'd have multiple options of defending myself; but it's still scary.
The clouds begin growing thick over the sky as I sit down by the window, on the couch, looking for repair places on my phone for my car. My brain keeps skipping back to last night and I'm doing the best I can to put it behind a closed door and lock it; it's just the way he looked at me, from the front seat as if he was sitting directly infront of me.
My body aches slightly as I stand to head to the door hearing the doorbell being rung. I open it revealing a young blond girl with a big smile.
" here's your food, have a great day!" She says skipping off
I give a little wave and smile stepping back into my home closing the door behind me. I take my seat back on the couch and of course switch the tv to some random celebrity trash tv, I mean what's better to distract yourself than the events that happens in famous people's lives.
All of a sudden my skin shivers growing goosebumps. I feel like someone is watching, waiting. I look out the window and see nothing but an older woman walking her small poodle, and a few squirrels, not even a car is parked on the side of the road. I shake the feeling as maybe just a cold chill and return to eating my brunch.
———
You ever hear the saying; the early bird gets the worm? Yeah well I don't believe in it, seeing as I sit in the back of the Uber stuck in traffic to get to work, yet I even left my house early. Bumper to bumper traffic for what seems like a mile or two and I can only imagine what these crazy fuckers have done in broad day light.
BOOM
BOOM
BOOM3 explosions go off about halfway down from where I sit in the car. I quickly roll down the window and stick my head out hoping to see maybe what happened. Black smoke billows in the middle of the road causing the sky to oddly grow pretty dark. My heart beats rapidly, if something is happening I can't be stuck in this Uber. I have to get out. I have to run. My fight or flight instinct is kicking in but the only thing I can think of is flight, shit I ain't fighting whatever is exploding, would you? Hell no.
" thanks boss man, have a good one." I say handing 50$ to the driver and grabbing my bag getting out of his car.
I can hear him calling for me but I don't look back as I take off in the opposite direction. Letting my feet carry me as fast as they can through the alley ways I can finally see a glimpse of what happened, the smoke filling my senses even more as I grow closer.
2 vehicles exploded in the middle of the road, probably just a head on collision, I'll def be hearing about it on the news. I finally slow down catching my breath, I'm about ten minutes from where the bar is so I keep onward at a steady pace.
That feeling creeps up on me again feeling as if someone is watching, waiting; But there's lots of people walking down the sidewalk so I'm sure that's all I'm feeling.
I finally make it to the bar seeing a mechanics truck parked next to my car, I walk over and around the car to where the hood is popped.
" how much is this gonna cost me?" I ask the big bearded man
" just a starter replacement, 100$ since I had to take the old one off and all that." He says wiping his hands turning to me
" that's actually not bad, here. I gotta open up, make sure it's closed tight when you're done yeah?" I said to him and he smiles taking the money from me
" thank you ma'am." He says as I make my way back towards the front door of the bar
Thankfully though I don't have much to do until we open, but that also just means more time for my brain to run ramped with that one morally dark man.
