Ed stood beside his wife, his hand on her hip as she talked to father Micheal.
"And how is Judith getting along at college?"
"She's getting on very well, so much so she hasn't called her parents in two weeks" Lorraine couldn't help but roll her eyes at her husband.
"She's having fun" She reminded him.
"She's a young woman enjoying life" Father Micheal smiled.
"That's what I'm worried about" Ed muttered, earning a small nudge of his wife's elbow in his stomach.
"What was that?"
"Nothing father" Ed smiled "We should get going anyhow. See you next week" Ed shook his hand before Lorraine did the same. The father waved goodbye to them as they headed back to their car. Ed started the car and pulled out of the church parking lot, Lorraine shifted closer towards him, placing her head on his shoulder as he wrapped an arm around her.
"I'm going to call Judy when we get home" She announced.
"Alright, and what do we do with the rest of our day?"
"The garden needs weeding" Ed sighed slightly.
"This is not the day that I had in mind" Lorraine smiled against his shoulder.
"Pull the weeds and maybe I'll consider it" She pressed a kiss to his cheek before she settled back against his shoulder for the rest of the drive.
When they got home Ed headed out into the yard as Lorraine dialed Judy's number.
"Hello?"
"Hi sweetheart, it's Mom"
"Hi mom, how are you? How's dad?"
"We're fine, missing you actually"
"I miss you both too I've just been so busy these past few weeks. I was actually going to come home soon, I have something to tell you both"
"Oh, are you alright?"
"I'm fine Mom, it's good news" Judy hesitated for a moment "I'm engaged"
"Oh, Judy congratulations. Whose the lucky man?" Lorraine smiled down the phone.
"His name is Sam. Do you remember telling me how you and dad met? It felt just like that" Lorraine could feel her daughter's smile down the line.
"I'm delighted for you sweetheart. When do we get to meet him?"
"How does next weekend at home sound? Small and intimate"
"That sounds great"
"How about a wedding?"
"Sweetheart are you-"
"No mom I'm not pregnant, we just don't want to wait"
"We or he?"
"We, Mom. We're in love, love like you and dad are. We don't want to waste time"
"Okay sweetheart"
"Can you break the news to dad? He'll take it better if it comes from you"
"I will. I love you, see you next weekend"
"See you then, love you" Lorraine placed the phone back on the receiver before she headed into the kitchen, pouring Ed a drink before she headed out into the yard.
"What's this?" He asked, taking it from her.
"Drink up" Ed sensed something that he wouldn't like and downed his drink in one mouthful "Judy's engaged"
"To who?"
"Sam. She's known him for a while, she said it felt like how we met" Ed scoffed, dropping back to the ground he began yanking weeds from the ground.
"She's not pregnant is she?"
"She says she's not, they just don't want to wait"
"I'm sure he doesn't" Ed muttered angrily. Lorraine dropped to the floor beside him and took his wrists, stopping his angry yanking.
"She loves him Ed, I heard it in her voice. And we didn't exactly wait" She reminded him, memories of the two of them finding loopholes to going all the way, in the back of his car and the empty movie theater.
"We were different"
"We were teenagers in love and Judy is a young woman in love" She dropped one of his wrists and threaded her free hand into his hair "She needs her dad to walk her down the aisle next weekend-"
"Next weekend!"
"And she wants to have it here" Ed groaned.
"Father Micheal isn't going to happy about that"
"She wants something small" She shrugged and Ed sighed again.
"Alright, I'll clear out the yard. Maybe Judy can get married under the gazebo" Lorraine smiled fondly at the memory of the two of them seeking shelter from the rain.
"That sounds wonderful. I'll call father Micheal now and start making plans" Ed nodded, Lorraine kissed his cheek before she stood and headed towards the house "You missed a few" She teased as she headed into the house, hearing him mutter a grunt.

Lorraine placed her and Ed's dinner plates onto the table before she sat opposite her husband.
"Father Micheal is more than happy to do the ceremony here" Ed nodded "I also called my mother and let her know the good news"
"I'd bet good money she wasn't pleased"
"She was actually. She's excited to pick out a new outfit too"
"I can't wait to see what you pick out" He winked across the table, making her smile.
"You just want to see what's going to be under the dress" He smirked.
"I can't help it if I love my wife"
"Love her or lust after her?" She challenged.
"Both" She smiled across the table.
"Sam's inviting his side of the family so we need to put a list together" He nodded again, forking his food into his mouth.
"This tastes great" Lorraine smiled.
"I'm glad you like it"
"Do you think that Judy ever-"
"Ed" She sighed "Judy is better than we were and she's older than we were" He nodded.
"Still-"
"Ed" Lorraine cut him off, hoping that he would stop thinking about it.
"I just-"
"Ed!"
