Lorraine smiled widely as she pulled Judy into her arms, hugging her tightly.
"I've missed you so much"
"I've missed you too mom" Judy smiled against her shoulder. Lorraine dropped her arms from around her daughter, quickly becoming replaced by Ed's arms as he embraced her.
"Hey sweetheart"
"Hi dad" She smiled as he released her "This is Sam"
"It's nice to meet you both" Sam held out his hand for Ed to shake but he hesitated.
"Edward Warren you will shake that boys hand or I will lock you out of this house" Lorraine threatened in a hushed tone but everyone heard her loud and clear. Ed sighed but reached out and shook his hand.
"It's nice to meet you Sam" Lorraine smiled, hugging him tightly "Shall we go inside?" She took Ed's arm and headed back into the house.
"Who should I be more afraid of?" Sam whispered to Judy as they slowly followed behind her parents.
"Definitely my mother, but she's sweet" She muttered back as they headed inside.
Lorraine made tea and they sat in the living room, Lorraine tucked under Ed's arm as Judy sat close to Sam but not quite touching.
"So Sam, what do you do?" Ed began.
"I'm studying business but I also work at a restaurant"
"Did Judy tell you how Ed and I met?" Lorraine smiled.
"She did, she loves that story"
"How did you meet our daughter?" Ed asked, feeling Lorraine squeeze him thigh in reprimand.
"I was working at the restaurant, I walked over to a table to take an order and I looked up and forgot everything I was about to say. I lost the ability to do anything and everything" Judy smiled up at Sam and it reminded Lorraine of how Ed smiled down at her.
"It was love at first sight just like it was with you and mom" Sam smiled down at her.
"Where are you planning to live after you get married?"
"I live off campus. It's a small apartment but it'll fit the both of us"
"You haven't-"
"Ed!"
"I'm not pregnant dad, we haven't done anything. I'm waiting until I'm married"
"That's my girl" Ed smiled, earning sighs from his wife and daughter.
"On another note, how's everything looking for tomorrow?" Judy asked, changing the subject much to her mother's joy.
"It's great" Lorraine assured her "And I thought that tonight you and I can share your dad's and I bed. Sam and Ed can sleep on the couch" Ed grumbled.
"Aren't we supposed to be upset about not sharing a bed?" Judy teased, knowing the strength of the love between her parents.
"Ignore him" Lorraine laughed lightly.
"Tell us more about yourself Sam. Why should I let you marry my daughter tomorrow?"
"Ed!"Ed huffed as he rolled onto his back. Hours. Just a few hours. One night away from Lorraine and he couldn't bear it. He threw back the blanket and quietly padded towards the stairs, careful to avoid the creaky ones as he made his way up and towards the master bedroom. He pushed open the door and stepped inside, spotting Judy on Lorraine's side whilst Lorraine was on his side, her face buried into his pillow. He closed the door behind him before he moved over to his wife, carefully brushing her hair away from her eyes.
"Ed?" Her eyes slowly blinked open "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I just couldn't sleep without you beside me" He admitted, earning a smile in response. Lorraine shifted back towards Judy, making space for him beside her.
"Come on" She threw back the covers and he climbed in beside her lying on his back as Lorraine lay against his chest, pulling the covers back over them.
"This reminds me of when we were seventeen, sneaking in through your window and having to sneak back out before we fell asleep out of fear of your father" She giggled lightly before he shushed her "We don't want to wake Judy" Ed cast his eyes over to their daughter who was still sleeping soundly.
"Daddy definitely would've shot you if he found you in my bed"
"Your father would've killed me if he found out what we got up to in the back of my car"
"We were good enough, I think God forgave us a long time ago"
"I think keeping you pure for our wedding night helped"
"You were pretty creative" He smirked down at her.
"I didn't hear any complaints"
"How many hail Mary's did father James get out of you in the end?"
"For lust? Probably a thousand or more. I think that he forgave me when we got married though" She smiled fondly against his chest.
"Do you think Judy gave herself to Sam?"
"I don't want to think about that" He grimaced "But she's better than us both"
"She's the best of us" She agreed "Did you ever wish we had more?"
"Not for a moment" He promised, lifting a palm to rest on her cheek.
"I wished we did. I prayed for it"
"God thought that Judy was enough for us" He could see that it hurt Lorraine to remember how hard it had been for them to have Judy, she was their miracle, but Lorraine wished they had more miracles.
"You didn't manage too long without me" He chuckled slightly.
"I never do"
"Are you going to sneak out before Judy wakes up?"
"I don't know. Let's go to sleep" He kissed the top of her head as she settled against his chest "I love you"
"I love you too" She muttered back, already beginning to drift off.
