It has been a week since you were discharged from the hospital and since you asked Goo to look into your parents. He didn't have any information yet and your patience started to run low.
You decided to take matters into your own hands and booked a bus ticket to your grandmothers hometown, in the hope of finding more information there.
You searched for your seat in the bus as you spotted little Daniel in the same bus. There was a woman sitting next to him, who you assumed didn't have anything to do with him. "Hi Daniel!" You greeted him and he looked up shocked.
"Huh? (Y/N), what are you doing here?" He asked.
"I'm visiting my grandma, it's been a while since I last saw her." You said.
You looked at the lady seated beside him. "I'm sorry, ma'am..?" She looked up at you and you showed a small smile. "Would you mind swapping seats so I can sit with my friend."
"Oh, yes of course!" She said and she hurriedly got out of her seat, making you and Daniel glance at each other out of confusion.
You sat down next to him. "So why are you going there?" You asked.
"I'm visiting my mother." He smiles shyly. "I got her a gift."
He proudly showed you the blouse he bought for her and it made you smile. "It's beautiful, that's so sweet of you!"
It took about 3 hours before the bus arrived at its destination and Daniel helped with your bag so you wouldn't hurt your broken arm. "Thanks Daniel." You smiled gratefully.
"Where does your grandma live? I'll walk you." He said as he nervously looked at the ground.
You showed him the address and he slowly nodded, recognising the street name.
As you and Daniel walked toward your grandmother's house, the streets grew quieter, the small-town charm replacing the city's constant buzz. You held the address tightly in your hand, trying to steady the swirl of emotions in your chest. The bus ride had been a welcome distraction, but now, the reality of why you were here weighed heavily on your mind.
Daniel glanced at you, his shy smile fading as he noticed the tension in your face. "Are you okay? You seem... worried," he asked hesitantly.
You sighed, debating how much to tell him. "It's just... my parents," you began, your voice soft but tinged with frustration. "They disappeared. Out of nowhere. No explanation. And no one seems to know anything."
Daniel blinked, his brows knitting in concern. "They visited your grandmother because she was sick right?"
You nodded, gripping the strap of your bag. "Yeah.." You were silent for a moment as you remembered you never told him that. "How do you know?"
"Huh? Oh.. Daniel told me." He quickly mumbled and that's when you remembered that they lived together.
"Oh right I told him." You nodded slowly. "Anyways, like I said they disappeared without a trace."
Daniel's steps slowed as he processed your words. "That's... really serious, (Y/N). Did you go to the police?"
You let out a bitter laugh. "My dad is the police. Chief of it, actually. And now he's gone, and no one in the department is giving me answers."
His eyes widened. "Your dad was the chief of police? I didn't know that."
"It's not exactly something I brag about," you muttered, glancing away. "He wasn't the 'hero' everyone thought he was. Especially not to me."
Daniel's face softened, his curiosity tempered by compassion. "What do you mean?"
You hesitated, your pace slowing as you struggled with the words. You'd never told anyone the full story—not because you were afraid to, but because no one had ever asked.
