Kai's vision blurred as he struggled against the chains holding him down. His heart pounded in his chest, not just from the pain of the kryptonite sapping his strength, but from the words Wolfman had just uttered.

Subject S.

Kai's breath caught in his throat. Only a few people knew about that name, about what he had been before escaping the lab, before he found a new life as a hero with no memory of what happened in those years. Whoever had contracted Wolfman had to know something from those dark days. His thoughts raced, trying to piece together the fragments of his past while fighting off the kryptonite's weakening effects.

"How... how the hell do you know that name?" Kai rasped,

Wolfman grinned, clearly savoring Kai's reaction. He crouched down, holding the kryptonite closer, watching with amusement as it continued to drain Kai's strength. "Ah, now that is the question, isn't it? You see, I'm just the messenger. A hired hand with a talent for taking down so-called 'heroes' like you. But my employer? Let's just say they've been keeping an eye on you for a long time, Subject S."

Kai's mind raced, trying to think of anyone from his past who might still have an interest in him, especially after he escaped the lab. The doctors, the scientists, they were supposed to be long gone. He had buried that part of himself. But the fact that someone knew that someone had hired Wolfman and equipped him with that rock meant there was more at play than he had anticipated.

Wolfman stood up and took a few steps back, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. "As for who contracted me, well... I'm not inclined to share all my secrets, but let's just say they're someone with a very deep interest in you, and they have big plans, for you and your little sister.

Kai's eyes widened, his mind spiraling in disbelief. Sister? The word echoed in his head like a bell tolling, drowning out everything else. He had never known—never even suspected—that he had a sibling. And yet, the memory of the mysterious woman he had encountered after the sports festival resurfaced. The one who had called him Kal. He hadn't seen her face, but something about her presence had felt familiar in a way he couldn't explain. Now, the pieces were beginning to fall into place.

His chest tightened with fury as a new, terrifying thought took root—had they experimented on her too? If she had been in that hellish lab, trapped like him, and he hadn't known, hadn't been able to rescue her, then what had they done to her? Was she still under their control?

His breath quickened, coming in ragged bursts as anger surged through him, momentarily giving him the strength to push back against the kryptonite's suffocating grip. His heart hammered against his ribcage as he struggled to stand, his muscles trembling with the effort.

Wolfman's smug expression faltered as he saw the fire return to Kai's eyes. "Oh, getting your second wind, are we?" he sneered, stepping back and pocketing the kryptonite, keeping a cautious distance now.

Before Kai could respond, Sam, still holding the device, cleared his throat. "I... I did what you asked," Sam said, hesitating as he glanced between Wolfman and Kai. "Now give me what you promised."

Wolfman's expression darkened instantly. "Ah, right. The deal." His voice dripped with sarcasm as he reached into his coat, but instead of pulling out what Sam expected, he withdrew a sleek handgun, leveling it at Sam with a cold, unfeeling gaze.

"What are you—" Sam's words were cut off by a loud bang as the gun went off. Sam let out a howl of pain, dropping the device as he clutched his arm, blood seeping through his fingers. He fell to his knees, gasping in agony.

Wolfman lowered the gun, his face a mask of indifference. "Did you really think I'd let you walk away after everything you know?" He scoffed. "Fool."

He aimed the gun at Sam again, but before he could pull the trigger, David leaped into action. "No!" David shouted, throwing himself between Sam and Wolfman. The second shot rang out, and David staggered back, clutching his side where the bullet had struck him.
