Ash and Serena walked all the way to Vermillion City and made their way to the lab. Serena was groaning in exhaust. "W-why i-is t-there so m-many s-stairs?" exclaimed Serena. "Do you need help?" said Ash.
"Help? In what way? Like a push, or a motivational message-" Serena was thinking, before Ash picked her up and carried her up the stairs. "A-Ash, you didn't have to do that! We were almost there!" said Serena. "Oh, come on. You know you wanted that." said Ash.
It was true, and Serena was blushing. "Y-You're right..." she said. They got to the door, knocked, and Chloe, on the inside, said: "Hey Goh. He's here." said Chloe. "Can't you just open it yourself...?" said Goh, slightly angry since he was watching a show. He eventually stood up and went to open it.
"Hey, Ash! How have you been?" said Goh. "Pretty nice, actually." Ash said while blushing. "W-Wait, is that who I think it is?" said Chloe. Serena moved in sight and greeted Chloe. "Chloe! How have you been?" said Serena. "Also pretty nicely actually..." Chloe said while blushing.
"Wait, you're blushing! Are you and Goh a thing?!" said Serena. Chloe was embarrassed and tried her best not to panic. "W-Well, um, uh..." That was the best Chloe could say since she was, indeed, panicking.
"Don't worry, Chloe. It's really none of my business." said Serena.
They all went in and sat down in the living room.
"So, Ash. Why exactly is Serena, the Kalos Queen, here?" asked Goh. Ash immediately said his obvious (at least to them) answer. "Oh, she's my friend. We traveled in the Kalos region together. She was also the first girl I have traveled with, technically." said Ash. Serena was hurt by the word "friend" but knew it was Ash trying to not give it away.
"Why is she the first and not the 6th-" said Chloe, being interrupted by Goh. "Wait! She was at Professor Oak's Summer Camp, right? The one you helped?" he said. "Yep, that's Serena." said Ash, when Chloe noticed something was off.
Not only was Ash blushing and looking at Serena when Goh asked how he's been, but the two had been unintentionally, by instinct, sitting close to each other while leaning on each other's shoulder. This triggered a response from Chloe.
"You two seem oddly...close. Closer than any friend I've seen you with, Ash. Why is that?" asked Chloe. This triggered Ash and Serena to blush, quickly realizing they had messed up a bit of the surprise by instinct, so Ash decided to give up and tell them the truth.
A sigh from Ash was heard, as he didn't wanna say this, but had to. "Well, um...me and Serena are, um...dating......" Both Chloe and Goh's eyes widened. "You are?!" said both of them, surprised by Ash's seemingly new, not dense, self. "Are we sure this is the same Ash?" said Goh.
"Y-Yeah...he is." said Serena, embarrassingly. "Huh. Well, I did notice you and Serena were a bit friendlier when you were on the boat..."

"Is that Ash?!" said Serena. "Huh? Serena! How have you been?" asked Ash. "A lot better, ever since the, um, incident in the airport..." said Serena. Ash remembered what Serena had done. "Oh...that...what did you, um, mean by that?" He didn't specify, since in his eyes back then, it sounded weird. Serena felt her heart shatter. "Why do I love a person this dense..." she thought to herself. "Well, whatever it meant, I'm glad I saw you again!" said Ash.
"Wait, you two know each other?" asked Chloe. "She's a good friend from some of my journeys." said Ash, hurting Serena at the word "friend". The ship horn honked and Ash quickly got on.
