5: Limitations

Present Day: Charon Industries Research Complex 2-C (The planet Chorus)

The raid on the research complex had gone off without a hitch; much to Carolina's intense surprise. The team she'd gone in with didn't exactly seem like the most balanced bunch in the world — the group had consisted of Church, Tex, Maine, Wyoming, Tucker, Sarge, and herself. Regardless, they'd managed to infiltrate the building and flush out the pirates fairly easily. The goal to take all of the pirates alive hadn't exactly been fully achieved thanks to Maine, Wyoming, as well as Tex to a certain degree. However, most of the pirates were still alive and were able to be interrogated. They hadn't given up any useful information yet, but Carolina had a feeling they would with the right amount of persuasion.

At the moment, Tucker and Sarge were taunting a group of handcuffed pirates they'd taken hostage. The two of them were singing "Another One Bites the Dust" and dancing. Carolina just watched and simply shook her head. While they'd have to get moving soon, she figured it couldn't hurt to let them have some fun. They didn't get too many chances to let loose anymore.

"And another one gone, and another one gone. Another one bites the dust!" Tucker sang as he danced in front of the soldiers. "Guess what? We. Kicked. Your. Ass. Bitch!" He stopped dancing at the end of his taunt and flipped the soldiers off. "That's right! We won!"

"Get down with your bad self, Blue," Sarge said, cutting the beat he'd been providing.

"All right, guys. I think that's enough now," Carolina told them. "We just took their base. I don't think there's a need for anymore cruel and unusual punishment."

"Are ya sure?" Sarge asked as he looked at her. "I wouldn't mind dropping some sick beats on 'em. You know, bust some rhymes. Kick it a little old school."

"For the love of God, please don't," Church said from his place next to Carolina. "I don't particularly want or need to hear anymore of that. Ever."

Sarge grunted in disappointment. "Hmph. Square."

Carolina shook her head slightly. "I know you guys are having fun, but we have work to do. Our intel says they've been storing old freelancer equipment here. The more of it we recover, the less things Charon has to make new weapons out of."

"She's got a point," Tex said. "Sarge, we're gonna need you to go check in with the Feds and see if they've found anything. Tucker, do you think you can handling checking in with the rebels?"

"Yeah, yeah," Tucker said dismissively. "We're already on it."

The two of them took off, leaving Carolina with Church and Tex. Maine and Wyoming were doing building sweeps; checking for any stragglers that might've been hiding when the initial raid went down. As much as Carolina hated to admit it, having the extra help with leading the mission had been nice. Tex had helped to figure out a lot of the details during their brainstorming session the night before, and all Carolina had to do was make sure the plan was executed smoothly. Church had been included in the planning only because of him having Alpha. Giving him an A.I. hadn't fully made him less of an idiot — it had just made him a slightly more helpful idiot. Having him around to so they could hear Alpha's input had helped tremendously.

"Now I'm actually curious. During all the years we'd spent together in Blood Gulch, when in the hell did Tucker learn how to dance?" Church wondered aloud.

Tex shrugged. "Honestly, I don't think I could tell you. Hey, maybe you could take some lessons from him. Lord knows your dancing could use some work."
