22: Tactics

Present Day: Crash Site Alpha (The planet Chorus)

When Washington had taken off running out of the shipwreck, he hadn't actually had a plan in mind. He'd really just decided to wing it with whatever it was he ended up doing; it wasn't the smartest idea, but it was all he'd had. The steel clad freelancer also hadn't planned on having any of his teammates join him. But when North put his foot down and insisted that CT and South tag along, Wash really couldn't argue the matter. It wasn't the place for it, and things needed to start getting set in motion if their escape plan was going to have any chance of working.

On the other hand, however, Wash still didn't have a plan on how to try and draw Locus's attention. And now he had two other people to try and keep track of. Not that South and CT weren't capable of taking care of themselves, but if it had been up to him, they would've been back with everyone else. He didn't want to give Locus more targets to take aim at. Not when the mercenary really only seemed to be interested in butting heads with him. But he couldn't exactly tell his teammates to head back to the remnants of the ship now — the three of them were currently pinned down and hiding behind a large piece of what used to be a metal wall.

South leaned slightly around the edge slightly in an attempt to survey the battlefield, but quickly recoiled when a few rounds richocheted off the metal near her face. "Okay, so does anyone have any bright ideas about anything? Or are we just gonna sit here doing nothing until somebody shoots us?"

Wash looked at her. "All right, listen. I'll admit that I wasn't exactly prepared as far as any kind of plan goes. But —"

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up here," CT interrupted. "We've been out here trying to dodge bullets for the last twenty minutes just for you to tell us you have no fucking plan? Please, tell me you're joking."

"I, uh, well. . . ." Wash trailed off nervously as he looked at the female freelancers. He barely had time for his brain to try and get his body to react when the two women each punched one of his arms as hard as they could. "Fucking ow!"

"You stupid jackass!" CT scolded harshly, punching his arm again. "Is this how it was gonna go if you did this on your own? You were just gonna run out here and wing it?!"

"I mean, kinda! Only because if I thought about it too much, I would've lost my nerve to try and do something about Locus. His only issue seems to be with me. And to be honest, I've been kinda itching for a chance to even the score after he kicked the shit out of me," Wash explained, holding the now rather sore spot on his left arm.

This time, it was South who hauled off and punched him again. "You don't throw yourself into the middle of a fucking firefight with no plan just because you have a personal vendetta, moron! Were you looking to get yourself killed?"

Washington flinched away from his other teammate and grabbed at his right arm; it was equally as sore as his left one now, which had started throbbing. "Not exactly. I mean, at least that wasn't part of my non-existent plan. But if something would've happened, it would've only been me in the line of fire. Now I have to worry about something happening to both of you." Before he could react again, both women drilled his arms at the same time again with extraordinary force. He recoiled a bit, his back pressing up against the metal. "God damn it, stop hitting me!"

"Then stop talking stupid!" South snapped. "Neither of us are going anywhere, so you're just gonna have to deal with that. But on that same note, we need to come up with a damn plan. Now. Because we can't just sit here and do nothing."

"Look, I might have one thing in mind that we can do. It's gonna sound kinda risky — don't hit me again," he said, holding his hands up to stop the two women from punching his arms yet again. He could tell they'd both been getting ready to lash out at him again, and he wasn't about to risk the bruises he knew were already forming getting any bigger. "We're gonna need a little help from some of the others, but it'll distract Locus long enough to get the smoke screen up and running without a problem."
