The morning sun had barely crested the horizon when Sarah Chen's phone erupted in a cacophony of alerts. Groggily, she reached for the device, her eyes widening as she scanned the flood of notifications. Something big was happening, and it wasn't good.

"Mark," she barked into the phone as soon as her partner picked up. "Are you seeing this?"

"Yeah," Mark's voice was tense. "Looks like GlobalTech's entire network is down. Some kind of cyberattack."

Sarah's mind raced. GlobalTech was one of the largest tech conglomerates in the world. If their systems were compromised, the implications could be catastrophic.

"I'm on my way to the office," Sarah said, already pulling on her clothes. "Meet me there in 20."As she rushed out of her apartment, Sarah's phone buzzed with a text from Jack: "This is connected to our case. Don't trust anyone. Call me when you're alone."

Sarah's stomach tightened. She'd been hoping for a quiet weekend to process everything they'd learned at the mining facility, but it seemed the conspiracy they were chasing had other plans.

The FBI's San Francisco field office was a hive of activity when Sarah arrived. Agents rushed back and forth, phones rang incessantly, and the air crackled with tension. She spotted Mark by their shared desk, his face grim as he pored over a stack of reports.

"What do we know?" Sarah asked, sliding into her chair.

Mark looked up, his eyes shadowed with worry. "It's bad, Sarah. GlobalTech's entire network is locked down. Every computer, every server, even their cloud backups. They're completely paralyzed."

Sarah's breath caught. "Ransomware?"

Mark nodded. "The most sophisticated attack I've ever seen. The hackers are demanding payment in cryptocurrency - 500 million dollars worth of Bitcoin."

"Jesus," Sarah breathed. "That's..."

"Unprecedented," Mark finished. "Yeah. And here's the kicker - the ransom demand came with a message. 'This is just the beginning. The old world of finance is crumbling. Embrace the new order or be left behind.'"

Sarah's mind whirled. The message, the use of cryptocurrency - it all fit with the larger conspiracy they'd been unraveling. But how did it connect to TechNova and the mining pool attacks?

Before she could voice her thoughts, their supervisor, Agent Carlson, approached. "Chen, Thompson, I want you two on point for this. Your expertise in cryptocurrency fraud makes you our best shot at cracking this case."

Sarah nodded, pushing aside her doubts. "Yes, sir. We'll get right on it."

As Carlson walked away, Sarah turned to Mark. "We need to talk to GlobalTech's IT team. See if we can get a look at the ransomware code."

Mark agreed, and within the hour, they were at GlobalTech's headquarters. The normally bustling office was eerily quiet, with clusters of worried employees huddled around powerless computers.

Sarah and Mark were led to a conference room where GlobalTech's Chief Information Security Officer, Dr. Amelia Patel, was waiting for them.

"Thank you for coming so quickly," Dr. Patel said, her voice strained. "We're completely out of our depth here."

"Walk us through what happened," Sarah said, taking a seat.

Dr. Patel took a deep breath. "It started at 3:17 AM. Our monitoring systems detected an anomaly in our network traffic. By the time we realized what was happening, it was too late. The ransomware had spread to every corner of our infrastructure."
