The blinding flash from Dr. Nakamoto's device faded, leaving Sarah Chen momentarily disoriented. As her vision cleared, she found herself in a scene of chaos. Alarms blared throughout the facility, and the confused shouts of guards echoed down the hallways. Aiden Zhao lay unconscious at her feet, the device that had been in his hand now a smoking ruin.

"Sarah!" Jack's urgent voice cut through the cacophony. "We need to move. Now!"

She nodded, her FBI training kicking in as she assessed the situation. Dr. Nakamoto was already sprinting down the corridor, his wild hair streaming behind him. Without hesitation, Sarah grabbed Jack's arm and followed, leaving the stunned guards behind.

As they ran, Sarah's mind raced. What had Nakamoto's device done? And more importantly, how had it given them this chance to escape?

They rounded a corner and nearly collided with Anika, who was clutching a laptop to her chest, her eyes wide with a mixture of fear and excitement.

"Oh thank God," Anika gasped. "I thought I'd lost you both. We need to get to the central server room. I've discovered something big about their Quantum Lightning Protocol."

Sarah hesitated for a split second. Their original plan had been to sabotage the quantum computer, but if Anika had found new information...

"Lead the way," Sarah decided. "But make it quick. We won't have long before they regroup."

As they navigated the labyrinthine facility, alarms still blaring around them, Anika filled them in on her discovery.

"The Quantum Lightning Protocol isn't just a new blockchain," she explained breathlessly. "It's a complete reimagining of how consensus works in a distributed network. They're calling it 'Proof of Quantum Entanglement.'"

Jack's eyes widened. "That's... theoretically possible, but the computational requirements would be astronomical."

Anika nodded grimly. "That's where the quantum computer comes in. It's not just for breaking existing cryptography. It's the lynchpin of their entire system."

Sarah's brow furrowed as she processed this information. "So if we take out the quantum computer..."

"We might be able to stop the protocol from ever launching," Anika finished. "But there's a catch. The system is designed with multiple failsafes. If we don't do this exactly right, we could trigger a hard fork in every major cryptocurrency simultaneously."

The implications hit Sarah like a tidal wave. A hard fork was when a cryptocurrency's blockchain split into two separate chains, often resulting in market chaos and lost funds. If it happened to every crypto at once...

"It would be financial armageddon," Jack whispered, voicing Sarah's thoughts.

They reached the server room door, its biometric lock glowing an ominous red. Anika pulled out a small device and attached it to the scanner.

"This will spoof Aiden Zhao's biosignature," she explained. "But it'll only work for a few seconds. Once we're in, we'll have to move fast."

Sarah nodded, her hand instinctively moving to the weapon she'd taken from the guard earlier. "On your mark, Anika."

The hacker took a deep breath, then activated her device. For a heart-stopping moment, nothing happened. Then, with a soft beep, the lock turned green.

They burst into the server room, a cavernous space filled with rows upon rows of humming machines. At the center stood a sleek black monolith - the quantum computer that held the fate of the global financial system in its quantum circuits.
