Lando's POV

I didn't want to show it, but I was definitely disappointed in Alix.

She was standing next to me for the national anthem, but I couldn't look at her, couldn't even give her a side eye.

And she was just staring ahead, as if she was really concentrating and listening to the anthem.

I wonder if she got my message, wonder if she listened to it.

It maybe wasn't smart to tell her I love her through voicemail, but it was too late anyways.

After the anthem, I turned to her while putting my cap back on. "Good luck Alix"

"Good luck to you too" she quickly said. "Can we please talk after the race?"

"We can talk in Monaco if you want? Take a little walk together or something?" I suggested, putting my lips on the straw of my bottle.

"That would be nice" she smiled.

It would be so nice.

"Trying to keep your lips busy?" She pointed at the straw, I had to admit, I was definitely nibbling on it.

"Just thirsty" I winked before walking away to my car.

So did she, and I had to keep in mind that while I was wearing this helmet, I had to hate her.

I had to get passed her. I had to beat her.

So that's exactly what I did. I passed her and she couldn't keep up after that.

Both Max and her were struggling with the car.

It was actually a pretty boring race - we just drove the laps without really switching any positions after that.

"Yellow flag, Lando" Will said on the radio, but even before I could answer, he came on the radio again. "Scratch that - it's a red flag. Please come in the pit"

"Who is it?" I asked.

He was quiet for a while. "A Red Bull"

"Who's Red Bull?"

Please don't tell me it was Alix.

"It's Alix" he confirmed my thoughts.

And I felt sick, it was like someone stabbed me in the heart. It was as if someone took my heart right out of my chest.

"Is she okay?" I was barely able to get the words out of my mouth.

"We don't know yet, I think they're waiting for confirmation"

And now it felt as if someone threw my heart away. Which wasn't a good feeling - it was as if my gut knew it wasn't good.

I couldn't lose her.

I don't know how I drove into the pit, but I did. I was acting on auto pilot.

I jumped out of the car, took my helmet off and ran into my garage. I didn't talk to anyone though, I just looked up at the broadcast.

They weren't showing the car, weren't showing Alix. They were just showing us, in the pitlane.

Which definitely wasn't good.

They only showed the car when they knew the driver was fine.
So that meant that they didn't know yet.

Which meant that she wasn't responding on the radio.

Which meant that-

No I couldn't think about it. I had to believe she was gonna be perfectly fine.

She was gonna be fine and we were gonna have our walk and then I would definitely tell her how I felt.

I would absolutely tell her what she meant to me.

She just had to be fine.
