"We've been practising in class so I know who can play and who can't, this trial is basically for positions, if I haven't asked you to be here leave now" Coach ordered, barking like a drill sergeant.
"Anyone who thinks they have what it takes to be team captain line up over here" only 3 people moved; Phillips, Benny and me.
"Alright we'll be testing you on drills and today, I already know the other two's style of playing, everyone else run laps until I say stop. So, new girl, you think you can be my team's captain?"
"My name's Ari, and yes. Besides I'm better than both these boys" I smirked confidently. Behind me Benny groaned and I heard him mutter something along the lines of "Coach has a new favourite".
"You're better than my champ Benny?" Coach asked, eyebrows raised.
"Yessir"
"You agree Benny?"
"Unfortunately" he scowled
"We'll see. What positions do you usually play?"
"Pitcher, outfield or 2nd"
"Well let's see your pitches, then we'll work on your long throws. Ham!" Coach called "get in here and get suited up, we're testing the new girls pitching. Everyone else partner off and play catch till I ask for you"

When Ham was suitably attired in catchers gear I pitched for a bit before he called a halt.
"Coach, she's the best pitcher I've ever seen, better than Ash"
"That's what I needed to hear, good job Ham, alright everyone in, we're playing a game, the team leaders are Ari and Benny they'll choose their players"
"Ladies first" Benny offered and I immediately said "Phillips" he came and stood by me and Benny looked surprised before saying "Smalls". I looked to Phillips for advice
"I don't know any of these people" I said "who's good at what?"

With Phillips' help I chose a team, Benny scowling when I choose someone he wanted. I recognised some of the names of Benny's friends that he'd mentioned on occasion. My team started off fielding, I was pitching and nearly everyone struck out, Benny managed a foul on the third pitch and then jumped in the way of the ball, earning a walk. On my next pitch I purposely fumbled the release, keeping the ball in my hand I spun and threw to second, Phillips, who caught it and tagged Benny when he was trying to steal 2nd base. When it was our turn to bat both Phillips and I hit home runs. Naturally, my team won.

"Alright" Coach called at the end of the session "Ari's captain" he then proceeded to rattle off a list of names and those people's positions.

"Goddam it sis" Benny whined as we were walking home from the bus "you're better than me at everything, you can't take baseball too"
"Too late little Benny boy, and you should show more respect to your captain"
"Ugh you're insufferable!"
"What're siblings for?"
"Anyway what's with you choosing Phillips, it was like you knew him or something"
"Yeah I do, he's the kid the bigot of a headmaster assigned as my 'buddy' "
"Stay away from him ok? He's bad news, he's the kid I was telling you about, my arch nemesis, he's probably trying to use you to get to me"
"He doesn't even know we're related" I pointed out, having no intention of getting involved in my brother's overdramatic tendencies.
"Yeah but still, stay away from him ok?"
"Sure thing" though I had no intention of giving up my guide dog, the puppy was kinda cute when he was annoyed, and oh boy did I like annoying people.
