Diagon alley was overwhelming in the best way as they gathered the supplies that Kai needed. It was the exact opposite of her walk this morning in complete solitude. The street was now bustling with busy witches and wizards, young children, and the life of a city.
The air was still a little tense between her and Charlie, and she wasn't sure if it was because he was nervous about his family or if he was still regretting the kiss.
"I want to go in," she paused outside of the purple and orange building.
"Why?"
"I want to see what they invent. And it looks fun," her eyes sparkled with mischief. "Come on," she grabbed his hand and dragged him into the shop behind her.
Charlie grumbled all the way into the shop, but the corner of his lip quirked as he entered. It was bustling with parents trying to wrangle their young children.
Her eyes widened, awe covering her face. There were fireworks that lit up the ceiling, stick figures charmed to fly around the multileveled store and it was filled to the brim with interesting items. Kai couldn't help but turn in circles as she took in the hectic chaos of the store. She had never seen anything like it. The store felt alive and full of rambunctious energy.
She wandered around the store, wanting to see everything that they had for sale as Charlie trailed behind her. She saw so many things that her brain could barely keep up. Her breath caught when she caught sight of an adorable pink creature near the back
"Oh my god. You're adorable!" She crooned at the creature.
He fluffed in response to her praise. I know, the creatures voice was a high chirp, but pleasant to hear in her mind.
Are you happy in your enclosure? She always worried about caged animals or animals that were for sale. Some owners could be horrible; she knew that from experience.
Very. We are well fed and cared for. And the red ones have strict regulations that must be followed for whoever buys us.
"Good," she sighed in relief. She didn't want to, but if the creatures were unhappy, she would have had to say something to George.
"What were you talking about?" Charlie's quiet voice startled her for a moment. She hadn't forgotten that she showed him her wild magic, but she was surprised that he was still curious.
"I always check to make sure any caged creatures are happy," she shrugged, speaking softly to avoid the busy shop from overhearing. Now that the secret was out, she didn't mind opening up to him a little more. And they had established that they were friends, even if she wanted more. Physically at least. "I can't help it. It's like I feel caged, if they do. It hurts me, if that makes any kind of sense. But they're happy and well cared for." She smiled softly at the creature, sticking her hand into the cage and letting it nuzzle her.
"He likes you," she heard Charlie's sharp inhale at his brother's voice and turned toward the tall, lean man.
"Most creatures do," she met his grin easily. "Good to see you again."
He nodded to her with a smile, and a hesitant look crossed his face, "Charlie."
Charlie looked awkward for a moment, before reaching out to hug his brother. "Hey Georgie," his voice soft. Kai tilted her head to the side. She had never heard that tone from him.
"Are you going to come today?" George asked as they pulled away. His eyes were hopeful.
"Yeah mate," Charlie's voice was deep, and full of emotion, but Kai couldn't figure out which ones. "I'm not going to miss your birthday."
