"Deal."

She shook Charlie's hand, her hazel eyes meeting his blue, and tried to ignore the way that her stomach fluttered. She will kill those butterflies eventually.

"What was your ex to you?" She frowned not understanding his question. "Like an ex boyfriend? Ex girlfriend?" He waved his hand for etc.

Kai took a deep breath. Fucking hell he was just going straight for the throat to start. God how did she explain this? "Technically, he's my husband," she muttered quickly. Well that will do apparently..

Charlie choked on his food. She went back to starting down at her own, as if it were the most interesting thing she'd ever seen. She should probably be more concerned about the fact that her boss was currently choking and she was, indeed, the town healer, but she was sure he would be fine. And she needed a minute to collect her thoughts.

"I'm sorry. What?" He coughed out, still trying to fix his breathing. "Like you're in the process of getting divorced or you're just out here fucking around?"

Kai's fiery gaze burned him where he sat, "It's complicated. You're done with your question for today." Her voice was hard and final. "And for future reference, Mr. Weasley, when someone is sharing something, especially something difficult. It's best to not be a dick about it." There was no way to miss the venom in her voice.

She needed him to leave, immediately. Her heart rate picked up as the rage in her chest roared. She was ready to tear him apart with razor sharp teeth and claws, and while the thought was comforting to her rage, she didn't think that would improve her chances of keeping her job.

He didn't apologize for his comment, simply nodded his head and stood up to leave, jaw clenched. She had no idea what he had to be mad about. He's the one who implied she was a whore, she thought furiously.

She nodded her head back curtly and picked Pig up, while Charlie grabbed their bowls and placed them in the sink. She gently handed the owl to him and briefly met his eyes. She was too distracted by trying to keep her body from reacting to the anger to recognize what she saw in them. But she was sure he could see hers blazing with a fire that wanted to eat him alive. She could certainly feel the heat in her veins, flushing her cheeks.

"He'll sleep until tomorrow evening but he will be good as new when he wakes up. Try to set him up in a comfortable place where he won't be disturbed," her voice was curt but professional. No matter how she felt, animals would always be cared for. Even if they were owned by arrogant assholes.

Charlie nodded his thanks and abruptly left her house. She was always left with a feeling of sudden loss when he just breezed out of her door like that, but at least she felt like she could breathe.

Kai sighed, trying to gentle the inferno that had flared in her heart as she cleaned the dishes, then got to work checking on Gus and the two dog friends she had made earlier in the week. If she was trying to avoid memories of her past, the best thing to do was throw herself into work. Before she knew it, it was time to get ready for the party.

She dug through her clothes, finding a black leather skirt, a green sweater with a deep v-neck, and thigh high black boots. She put on a bit of makeup, always preferring a natural look and headed toward the mess hall.

"Kai! Welcome!" Chelsea, already a little drunk, ran up to Kai as she entered the building. She giggled as Chelsea threw her arms around her, stumbling slightly in her heels.

"Hey you," Kai grinned as the blonde let go. "Sorry I'm late."

She looked around the mess hall and found it hard to believe that it was the same place they ate during the week. The tables had been charmed into beer pong tables and the chairs turned into couches, cushions, and cozy armchairs around the room. There was a full bar that had been placed in the corner and a DJ booth set up along the back wall. She was impressed. Give her a few shots and she'll turn this into a Full Moon party.
