The next few days were filled with unease.
Karan couldn’t shake the tension from that night at the event.
He had learned just enough to know they were all in danger, but not enough to understand the full scope of it.
Every time his phone buzzed, his heart raced, wondering if it was another message from Maya or if the organization had found out about their plans.
Preeta noticed Karan’s growing restlessness and knew she needed to distract him, if only for a little while.
She glanced over at Savi and Ishaan, who were sitting at the café table with them, discussing the upcoming meeting they needed to crash.
They were all feeling the strain of what they were about to dive into.
“Alright, enough of this tension,” Preeta declared, breaking the silence. “We’re going out for some fun.”
Karan raised an eyebrow, taken aback by her sudden change in tone. “Fun? Now?”
“Yes!” Preeta insisted, standing up and pulling him to his feet. “We’re going to the amusement park today. We need a break from all this planning, even if it’s just for a couple of hours.”
Savi grinned, excited by the idea. “I love it! We could use some laughs and thrills.”
Ishaan, always the serious one, looked skeptical. “We don’t have time to—”
“Oh, come on, Professor,” Savi teased, tugging at Ishaan’s arm. “Even geniuses need a break sometimes. We’ll figure out the rest later. Besides, I bet you’ve never even been on a roller coaster.”
Ishaan sighed but couldn’t resist Savi’s infectious energy. “Fine, but just for a few hours.”
---
Soon, they were at the amusement park, the air filled with the sounds of excited screams and laughter.
The colorful rides and bright lights immediately lifted everyone’s spirits.
Preeta smiled at Karan as they entered the park, her eyes sparkling with excitement.
“This is exactly what we needed,” Preeta said, nudging Karan’s arm playfully.
Karan chuckled, a bit of his usual cool exterior melting away. “Alright, you win. Let’s have some fun.”
They started with a few easy rides—teacups, bumper cars, and a Ferris wheel—but it was the roller coaster that everyone was most excited for.
As they waited in line, Preeta couldn’t stop giggling at the thought of Ishaan riding the coaster.
“I can’t believe you’re actually going through with this,” she said, nudging Ishaan.
“I’m doing this under protest,” Ishaan grumbled, though there was a faint smile on his lips.
Once they were strapped into the roller coaster, the ride took off with a jolt.
Savi screamed with delight, throwing her arms into the air, while Ishaan gripped the safety bar with white knuckles, his face a mix of terror and amusement.
Preeta was laughing so hard she had tears in her eyes, while Karan leaned back, enjoying the rush of adrenaline.
As the coaster sped around sharp turns and looped in dizzying circles, Karan stole a glance at Preeta.
Her laughter, her smile—everything about her felt like a breath of fresh air in the middle of the chaos they had been facing.
In that moment, the noise of the world around them faded, and all he could focus on was her.
She caught his gaze and smiled, her eyes twinkling in the fading light of the sunset.
---
After the ride, they grabbed ice cream and found a quiet spot near the carousel.
The tension from the past week seemed to dissolve as they relaxed and shared stories, laughing about Ishaan’s reaction to the roller coaster.
“I thought you were going to pass out,” Savi teased, poking Ishaan in the side.
“I’ll have you know I was completely in control the entire time,” Ishaan retorted, though his grin betrayed him.
Preeta, still smiling, leaned her head on Karan’s shoulder. “I’m glad we did this,” she whispered. “It feels good to just breathe for a moment.”
Karan wrapped his arm around her, pulling her closer. “Yeah, I needed this too. Thanks for forcing me out of my head.”
They sat there for a while, the lights of the amusement park twinkling in the background.
It was a rare moment of peace, and for a brief time, they could forget about the dangers that awaited them.
---
As the night grew later, they knew it was time to head back.
The city was still buzzing with life as they drove home, but the tension began creeping back into Karan’s mind.
Tomorrow, they would be diving headfirst into dangerous territory.
But tonight, they had each other, and that was enough.
Savi, now feeling the exhaustion of the day, yawned as she stretched out in the back seat. “I don’t know about you guys, but that roller coaster wore me out.”
Preeta smiled. “It was worth it, though.”
Ishaan, who had been quiet for a while, spoke up. “We’ll need to be sharp tomorrow. The meeting isn’t going to be as fun as today.”
Karan nodded, his gaze fixed on the road ahead. “I know. But whatever happens, we’re in this together.”
Preeta looked over at Karan, her heart swelling with affection for him. “And we’ll figure it out. No matter what.”
---
As they reached their destination, Karan parked the car and turned to the group. “Get some rest. Tomorrow, we face whatever comes next.”
Preeta gave his hand a squeeze, her voice soft but steady. “We’ve got this.”
With that, they parted ways for the night, the lingering warmth of the day’s fun moments keeping their spirits high as they prepared for the next chapter in their dangerous journey.
