Louis

Two years. Three years even. I don't know how long it's been, but in such a short time period, I managed to forget about someone who used to mean the world to me. I completely forgot about her. The memories flooded back at the mention of her name though. Everything, everything about Alice and I since we were infants came back to me in the blink of an eye. How could I have ever forgotten about her?

Maura called last night, asking us if we recognied the name, or knew the patient, who turned out to be our insane friend from Doncaster. We hadn't heard from Niall's Mum hung up suddenly yesterday. No I was really urious about what was going on. I mean me of all people should have kept up with her and what was going on, I was the one that checked her into the first hospital for pete's sake! Then I remembered Maliya, Alice's bestfriend who had taken her in with me. Did she know what was going on? I hadn't spoken to her since the night we dropped off Alice. I flew out to Ireland with Niall to spend a few months with him and his family to escape the drama, when we came back she had left. I never asked where she went, or why.

But now, Mi was who I needed to talk to. So I had to do a little digging to find old numbers, and information. I didn't having anything about Maliya though, so I called my Mum.

"Hello?" She sounded tired, she was always tired lately. She was losing weight fast, and her health was slowly deteriorating. I was concerned for my Mum, but I hd another mission in mind right now.

"Hey Mum, it's me Lou. I was calling to see if you could get me some information? I'm looking for Maliya, my old friend from Doncaster. I.. I don't really remember her last name, but she was close to the Jenkins'. Could you call Sarah for me and see if she could find Maliya's information?" Mum let out  quiet 'sure', hanging up.

I paced the room for  solid thirty minutes when the phone finally rang. I ran over, nearly dropping the fragile Iphone to the ground in an attempt to answer it.

"Hello?" I answered too quickly, my Mum surely hearing the impatient tone in my voice.

"Hi, Louis. I spoke to Sarah, and she had to do some searching, but she found a number that you'd have the best chance of getting through to that girl," My mum listed off the digits in the number, her oice sounding strained and breathless.

"Thanks Mum. Are you okay? How're you doing?" It had been too long since I'd seen or even alled my family. I felt like a bad son for not checking up on her sooner.

"I'm doing okay, Louis. Just a little," a loud cough sounded through the phone, " Just a little tired. That's all. I'm fine, baby." I felt relieved but also like there was something she wasn't telling me.

"I love you, Mum. You know that right?" I heard a ow sigh on the other end of then phone. A deep breath followed by her voice, slow and saturated with exhaustion.

"Yes, BooBear, I know. Now, get back to your busy life pop-star." She hung up before I could even say goodbye. I felt like an awful son right then. But I dialed up the other number anyways.

"Hello?" The voice was deep and gruff, I was worried I had the wrong number.

    "Uhm, yes, is Maliya there?"

"Yeah, one second," There was a muffled call for the girl's name. Then a response I couldn't decipher. "I dunno who it is, some Brit," I chuckled at that, just noticing the guys accent, "Can I ask who's calling?"

"My name is Louis Tomlinson, if she doesn't remember me, tell her to turn on the tv," I joked.

I heard him repeat what I said, and then a girl's voce sounding much closer.

"Louis? Louis Tomlinson, is that you? How are you? How are the boys? How's famous life?" She rattled off questions. Her voice was more matured, she sounded older. Her british accent was watered down a bit, as if she hadn't been in the UK in months.

"I'm fine, they're fine, it's fine. I was actually calling to ask you something important."

"Okay, shoot." I took a deep breath.

"What do you know about Alice?" Silence. Not a peep.

"Excuse me?" Her voice was quiet, small. I could tell she felt vulnerable talking about this subject.

"Maura, Niall's mum called us last night. She works at a psych ward for severe mental illness'. She called asking if we knew a girl named Alice Jenkins. She told us that Alice had been in a coma like state, were her body could react, but her brain was emobilized. She said it was a result of the sudden attack from the disease that made her have her insane episodes. Lately though, they'd noticed her brain was becoming slightly active. When Maura was talking to the doctor bout Niall in her room, the activity spiked. She suddenly hung up after I told her I knew her, and we haven't heard anything since. I wasn't sure if you were aware, or if you knew anything." I paused, breathing in, and closing my eyes.

"No." My face pulled a puzzled expression.

    "No what?"

"No. I don't want to be a part of this anymore. That's why I left Louis. When you went to Niall's house in Ireland, I moved to America. I packed up everything I owned, and shipped myself to the states. I left. I couldn't handle all that drama. I moved on. I have a good, stable job, a boyfriend, a house, I'm ready to build a family Louis. I moved here to forget everything and everyone back in the UK. I'm done with that chapter in my life. I don't want this anymore. I love A--," She caught herself, "HER. I love Her very much, and I regret what happened to her, not being there when it was happening, but I won't go back to that. Always having to be on edge, worried that she'd hurt me or the girls, or you," I ran a finger over the long scar on my forearm. "I can't do it anymore Louis. Unless they cure that disease, or it is completely gone, I will no longer have anything to do with her." With that, the reciever clicked off, and I was left alone.

I stood in the kitchen, my hands in my hair, leaning against the counter. What do I do now?

I felt someone wrap their arms loosely, low on my hips, and a head rest on my shoulder. I felt the familiar curls tickle my ear.

"Hi Harry," we were always this affectionate with each other. We were so comfortable that it wasn't weird in the least. He was my best friend. He meant everything to me, so I knew I could trust him with this.

I lay on the couch, head in Harry's lap as he fingered my hair mindlessly, recapping everything. Absolutely everything since the very first day with Alice I could remember. It felt good to talk about it. I never did anymore, considering I forgot all about Allie until yesterday.

"I don't know what to say, Boo Bear. This is awfully complicated," He sighed and wiped a stray tear that escaped my eyes. Why was I crying? I didn't even know I was until Harry was using the pad of his thumb to remove the liquid. "Everything'll be okay Lou. The boys are on their way over anyways, so we can ask them, yeah?" I nodded. Then, I proceeded to pass out laying on my bestfriend's lap, scared to death about not knowing what was going on.
