" morning girly " i cooed to our one week old little girl. Elise blinked back at me, her blue eyes open wide as she sucked contently on her paci. " today is Mother's Day huh? Mommy's first one. We gotta make it super special baby girl, shall we do that? " I continue to tell her, not that she understood, but she can hear you, and they just like to listen to your voice.
I scoop her out of her bassinet, cradling her against my chest. Taylor was still asleep, but I placed Elise down on my side of the bed, just so I could take her out of her swaddle. I undid the velcro, letting her arms free, and they immediately shot outwards, as she stretched big.
" oh that's a big stretch for such a small girl " I scooped her back up, kissing her little cheek.
We went downstairs so we didn't disturb taylor and I noticed the flowers I had ordered for her had arrived at the door. I brought them in, setting them on the kitchen counter, making sure they were arranged somewhat nicely, not that I was any good at flower arranging. I set her gift and card up too, written by me but signed from Elise.
" what do you think girly? Do you think mommy would kill me if we went out to get her breakfast? " I ask her, kissing her soft tufts of brunette hair. I knew there was a small local bakery not far from where this house was in LA but Taylor would kill me if I got spotted in public with our newborn. But then again, it was 7am, I doubt many people would be out, so maybe it was worth the risk.
I went up to Elise's room, finding the baby carrier that Taylor had been using around the house for her. She seemed to really like it, always settling in it peacefully, so I decided to use that. It was a struggle getting it on, but I eventually figured it out, Elise softly snoring against my chest. No one would be able to see her face, and I'll wear sunglasses and a cap just in case.
The bakery was no longer than a 10 minute walk, and when we got there, we were the first ones, meaning we got first pick on what we wanted. I didn't go crazy, only getting enough for me and Taylor, making sure to tip the little independent business who I was thankful that they didn't batter an eyelid at me. When we arrived back home, Taylor was still fast asleep, so I started on a cup of coffee whilst Elise was still content in the baby carrier.
Soon enough, she was up and wanted fed, so I heated a bottle that Taylor had prepared the night before, feeding and burping her routinely, her wake window being right about now, so she didn't fall back to sleep, she was wide eyed, staring up at me.
" okay Lisey we're gonna try something for mommy? I don't think you're gonna like it, but it'll be so cute " I tell her, pulling out the non-toxic paint I bought from the store a few days ago, in purple. It was safe for babies, I'd made sure I'd checked.
I squeezed some paint onto a piece of paper, getting the paintbrush I'd also bought and carefully with Elise sat in my arms, I painted her tiny feet, making sure to get all her toes. They scrunched at the cold feeling, but she didn't cry thankfully. I pressed a plain white canvas to her painted toes, making the most adorable little footprint picture for Taylor. I grinned at my piece of work, just before elise began to fuss, so I pulled a wipe from the packet, cleaning her feet clean, leaving the picture to dry.
" trav? " I heard Taylor from the stairs, rushing up and greeting her with a grin.
" oh Tay, Happy Mother's Day " I smiled, handing Elise to her.
