Taylor's pov

I think the cries of a newborn baby have become a noise that I've recently become accustomed too, always feeling like I'm hearing them when in reality Elise could be fast asleep. Unfortunately, that was more unlikely than it was likely. She cried a lot, and tonight it had been even worse. At some point, Travis and I realised we that sleep tonight was a lost cause and that regardless, we weren't getting much of it. Elise was a month old, and just last week we had travelled back to Kansas City – that's where it began. I tried taking her to a paediatrician here, and they just sent us home, claiming she just had gas and we needed to burp her more. But no number of pats on the back was ever soothing her cries, and I was getting so overwhelmed.

" okay baby, I don't know what that matter is " I give up, as I begin to sob, Travis immediately taking Elise into his own arms.

" hey girly, come on now " Travis cooed, trying to soothe Elise, as well as me.

" she's not stopping Trav, she's been crying for 4 hours, I think we should take her to the emergency room " I said, panic rising in me.

" okay, yeah, I think that's a good idea, let's go " travis pulled some clothes onto himself, as I tried to comfort Elise, but my efforts were futile. We quickly swapped, Travis getting Elise in her car seat whilst I got some clothes on, and before we knew it, we were in the car, on our way to the emergency room.

When we arrived, it daunted us that we had no security, but right now, I didn't care, Elise was sick, and I wanted to get her seen. When you bring a newborn baby, screaming, into the emergency room, they act fast to get you seen, since they are so fragile, anything could make them seriously sick.

" so you guys are the adoptive parents? " the nurse questioned, a judgemental look on her face. I didn't like her, she seemed old and pushy.

" mhm " I replied faintly, Elise clutched in my arms, Travis by my side.

" okay well, babies cry you know, you might just be wasting the doctors time " she scolded and I was taken aback. " and just because your celebrities, it doesn't mean you get seen any quicker, if that's what you were expecting "

" we weren't expecting that at all, we appreciate that doctors are busy which is why we are waiting our turn, but we know our child, she isn't just crying for the sake of it " Travis snapped back, he was respectful with his tone, but I could tell that nurse had rattled him.

" well, you don't, because she isn't your actual child " she hissed in a snarky tone, and I felt tears prick my eyes, mostly out of pure anger. How dare she say that.

" is that any chance we could request another nurse? " I asked, holding back my tears. If I was to yell at this woman – like I really wanted to – I was just adding fuel to the fire, giving her more to talk about. I didn't need that, I needed Elise to been seen and to know she was okay.

" unfortunately not, they're all busy. You didn't like that I stated the truth? " she laughed, rudeness present in her voice. Elise's cries were only getting harder

" that's enough. I don't appreciate you speaking to my wife like that, as far as her birth certificate goes, we are her parents, so please, can you just make sure our baby is okay, that's all we care about " Travis said icily, and the nurse scoffed, coming over to do some routinely checks on Elise. I almost didn't want her to touch our little girl, but I bit the bullet, for Elise's sake.
