The next day started like any other, though Vaggie's thoughts were still clouded by the lingering vulnerability from the night before. She hadn't spoken more about it with Charlie yet, hoping they could just let the tension pass. After all, she wasn't ready to tell anyone about the pregnancy—especially not Charlie. But a strange sense of unease followed her as she walked through the hallways of the hotel, an invisible weight pressing on her chest.
Vaggie was looking for Charlie, wanting to clear the air and reconnect after the awkward moment they had shared. As she passed the lounge area, she heard familiar voices drifting through the door—Charlie's bright tone mixed with the deeper, more dramatic cadence of Lucifer's.
Vaggie paused, her curiosity piqued. She didn't usually eavesdrop, but something in the way Charlie spoke made her stomach twist. She approached the door quietly, pressing herself against the wall as she listened.
"I just don't know what's going on with her, Dad," Charlie's voice came through, tinged with frustration and worry. "Vaggie's been so... different. She's been all over me lately, and I don't know why. She won't talk to me about it."
Lucifer chuckled softly, though his voice held an undercurrent of seriousness. "Ah, young love. It can be quite complicated, can't it? But it sounds like something more is going on here, Charlie. You can't just let it fester."
"I know that," Charlie replied, sighing heavily. "But last night, I walked in on her... doing something. I don't even know how to describe it,...dad-..She was touching herself, and when I asked her what was going on, she wouldn't tell me anything."
Vaggie's heart dropped. The world around her seemed to freeze as her breath caught in her throat. She had trusted Charlie to keep that private, to not make it into something bigger than it was. But hearing her girlfriend share such a vulnerable moment with Lucifer, of all people, sent a cold wave of hurt crashing over her.
"She's probably just embarrassed," Lucifer offered, his tone unusually gentle. "But maybe she's hiding something bigger. Have you considered that she might be going through something you don't know about?"
"I've thought about that," Charlie admitted, her voice softening. "I just wish she'd tell me what it is. I feel like there's this wall between us, and I don't know how to break through."
Vaggie couldn't listen anymore. Her chest tightened painfully as she turned away from the door, fighting the wave of betrayal surging through her. Tears pricked at her eyes, but she forced them back, her mind racing with emotions she didn't know how to process.
She couldn't believe Charlie had shared something so personal with Lucifer. Of all people, why him? Vaggie's trust in Charlie felt shaken, and the idea of confronting her filled her with dread. Still, she couldn't just pretend she hadn't overheard this. She needed answers.
Taking a deep breath, Vaggie straightened herself and walked into the lounge, her face a mask of forced calm.
"Charlie," she called, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her. Both Charlie and Lucifer looked up in surprise at her sudden entrance.
"Oh, Vaggie!" Charlie stammered, immediately standing up from the couch. "I didn't know you were—"
"I heard," Vaggie interrupted, her gaze flicking between Charlie and Lucifer. "Everything..."
Charlie's face paled, her eyes wide with shock. "Vaggie, I—"
"why did you..-." Vaggie's voice trembled slightly despite her efforts to stay composed.
Lucifer, sensing the tension in the room, awkwardly cleared his throat. "Perhaps I should—"
"No, stay," Vaggie said coldly, her eyes narrowing at Charlie. "Since you're already in on this."
Charlie's heart sank as she saw the hurt in Vaggie's eyes. "Vaggie, I didn't mean to betray your trust. I was just... I didn't know how to handle everything. I needed advice."
"Advice?" Vaggie's voice cracked as her frustration boiled over. "You needed advice from him? About something that was private, something I wasn't even ready to talk to you about?"
Lucifer, clearly uncomfortable with the emotional weight in the room, stood up, adjusting his coat. "I think I'll leave you two to talk." He shot Charlie a look of sympathy before making a quick exit, leaving the room heavy with unspoken words.
Once he was gone, silence stretched between them, thick and tense. Charlie took a step toward Vaggie, her eyes pleading. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for it to go like this. I just want to understand you better."
Vaggie crossed her arms, hugging herself as if trying to protect the fragile secret she was still holding inside. "You want to understand? How can you understand when you don't even know what I'm going through?"
"Then tell me!" Charlie's voice rose, her frustration matching Vaggie's. "I love you, Vaggie, but I can't help if you keep shutting me out."
Vaggie looked away, her jaw clenched as the words tangled on her tongue. She wanted to tell Charlie. She wanted to let her in, but every time she got close, fear gripped her heart and held her back.
"I'm scared," Vaggie whispered, her voice barely audible. "I'm scared that if I tell you, everything will change."
Charlie's expression softened, her own frustration ebbing away. She stepped closer, gently taking Vaggie's hands in hers. "I don't care what it is, Vaggie. I'm not going anywhere. I just need you to trust me."
Vaggie swallowed hard, her heart pounding in her chest. She stared at the floor, trying to gather the courage to say the words that had been burning inside her for so long. But fear still held her captive.
"I need more time," Vaggie finally said, her voice barely holding together. "Please... just give me more time."
Charlie squeezed her hands gently, her love for Vaggie shining through the concern in her eyes. "Okay. I'll wait as long as you need."
But as Charlie wrapped her arms around her, Vaggie couldn't shake the feeling that time was running out. The secret she carried was growing harder to bear, and no matter how much she wanted to hold on, the truth would eventually come to light.
