two months later..

---

The sun was beginning to set outside the Hazbin Hotel, casting a warm golden hue across the dimly lit room. Charlie lay curled up in bed beside Vaggie, her head resting comfortably against her girlfriend's shoulder. Vaggie absently played with the ends of her long grayish-white hair, a small smile gracing her lips as she watched Charlie's expression shift from playful to serene.

"Isn't this nice?" Charlie murmured, her voice soft and sleepy. "Just us, relaxing after a long day of planning."

Vaggie nodded, trying to focus on the warmth of Charlie's presence rather than the worry gnawing at her. "Yeah, it is. We needed a break."

"I can't believe how much fun we're going to have at the event!" Charlie's eyes sparkled as she spoke, her enthusiasm contagious. "I've been thinking about incorporating a magical tea party theme. Just imagine it! Cupcakes that make you giggle, and tea that sings! It'll be perfect!"

Vaggie chuckled, picturing Charlie's fantastical ideas materializing in the hotel. But even as her girlfriend painted these vibrant pictures, Vaggie felt a weight in her chest. The truth about her pregnancy sat like a boulder in the pit of her stomach, heavy and unyielding.

"Charlie," she began, her voice faltering slightly. "About the event... maybe we should tone it down a bit? I mean, not everyone is going to be on board with... magical cupcakes."

Charlie turned to face her, propping herself up on one elbow, the sunlight catching the highlights in her hair. "You're right! I want everyone to enjoy it! But I just can't help but dream big."

"Of course," Vaggie said, trying to match her girlfriend's enthusiasm. "Just... remember to take breaks. We don't want you to overexert yourself."

Charlie waved her hand dismissively, her smile unwavering. "I'm fine! I just have to keep this energy flowing! It's what keeps the hotel alive, right?"

Vaggie couldn't help but admire Charlie's optimism, but it made her heart ache even more. If only she could share her news, she thought. But the fear of how Charlie would react, the potential for disappointment, and the worry that their plans for the hotel would change weighed heavily on her.

Suddenly, Charlie's expression shifted to one of concern. "Vaggie, are you okay? You've been acting a little... off lately."

Vaggie forced a smile, leaning in to place a gentle kiss on Charlie's hand. "Just tired, that's all. It's been a long couple of months, and I'm just adjusting to everything."

"Adjusting to everything? Like what?" Charlie asked, tilting her head in that adorable way that made Vaggie's heart race.

"Oh, you know... hotel management, and making sure we don't accidentally set anything on fire," Vaggie said, her tone light, hoping to deflect Charlie's curiosity.

Charlie laughed, the sound brightening the room. "You worry too much. I can help with that! Let's tackle everything together!"

As they lay there, wrapped in each other's warmth, Vaggie closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She wanted to tell Charlie, to share in this journey, but her fear of the unknown kept her silent. She couldn't shake the thought that maybe, just maybe, they weren't ready for this step yet.

Charlie's fingers intertwined with Vaggie's, pulling her out of her thoughts. "I love you, you know that? You're my rock."

Vaggie's heart swelled, and she turned to meet Charlie's gaze, her voice barely above a whisper. "I love you too, Charlie. More than anything."

In that moment, the world outside the room faded away. It was just the two of them, cocooned in their love, and Vaggie wished she could hold onto this feeling forever. But the shadow of her secret lingered just outside their bubble, and she knew she couldn't hide from it forever.

The quiet moment was abruptly interrupted by the loud clang of a door slamming in the hallway, followed by the unmistakable sound of Alastor's cackling laughter.

"Here we go," Vaggie muttered, rolling her eyes. "Looks like the peace is over."

Charlie giggled, the sound echoing with her usual brightness. "Maybe it's a sign we should get up and get back to work!"

Vaggie's stomach twisted at the thought of confronting the chaos outside their sanctuary. "Or maybe we should just stay here and let them tire themselves out."

"Now that's a tempting idea," Charlie grinned, leaning closer.

But even as Vaggie melted into Charlie's embrace, the weight of her secret loomed large. She knew she would have to confront it soon, but for now, she wanted to savor this moment, just a little longer.
