I stood by the foyer, watching out of the window as Jey's Uber disappeared out of the driveway and down the street as he headed out for RAW.

The house instantly felt emptier without him. A quiet heaviness settled over everything.

Turning away, my eyes landed on Mumble, who sat patiently by the threshold of the hallway. His wide eyes tracking my every move.

"Looks like it just us again, bub," I murmured, walking over to him. Mumble's little stub of a tail wagged, as I reached down to pick him up in my arms. He licked my cheek, making me giggle despite the gnawing worry that had taken root in my chest ever since Jey left.

Carrying him into the kitchen, I noticed the clock on the wall by the piano—it read 2:23 PM. I placed Mumble down, watching as he padded off in his usual curious manner, exploring the corners of the room before settling near his food bowl.

I tried to focus on the normalcy of the afternoon, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Jey, to Victoria, to the uncertainty that had been plaguing me for days. It was hard not to let it consume me, but I knew I had to stay grounded.

The sudden sound of the doorbell made me jump, my heart skipping a beat. Mumble immediately sprang into action, barking furiously as he ran toward the door. My pulse quickened, the sense of dread creeping back in as I stood frozen for a moment, staring toward the foyer.

It's nothing,

But my body didn't listen, the unease swirling in my chest making it hard to breathe. Slowly, I walked toward the door, peeking through the side window.

It was my mom.

I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding and unlocked the door. Mumble's barks turned into excited yips when he realized who it was.

"Hey, Mama," I said, forcing a smile as I opened the door wider to let her in. "You scared the hell out of me."

She chuckled softly, shaking her head. "Lord, I didn't mean to. Figured I'd stop by again and keep you company for a while and maybe do some more wedding planning." She bent down to scratch Mumble behind the ears as he danced around her legs, wagging his tail like crazy.

I stood back, watching them with a soft smile, but the tension in my chest hadn't fully dissipated. "I'm glad you did. It's... been a weird day."
