LEAH|

A week and a half later...

I was finishing up my training session at the Performance Center, wiping the sweat from my forehead when I heard a familiar voice behind me.

"Hey Leeeah," Carmelo's smooth voice cut through the noise of the gym.

I turned around, plastering a smile on my face as I grabbed my water bottle. "Hey, Melo," I replied, keeping my tone casual.

He sauntered over with that same cocky grin that he always wore, his eyes lingering on me a little longer than necessary. "You been killin' it in the ring, girl. Everybody's been talking 'bout you."

I chuckled, taking a sip of my water. "Just trying to make a name for myself, you know how it is."

For the past week, I'd been spending more time with Melo than I ever thought I would. It wasn't exactly by choice—I despised his cocky attitude, the way he carried himself like he was untouchable. But this was part of the plan Amahle and I had crafted, and I had to push my feelings aside to play my role.

Melo had no idea that every time I smiled at him, nodded at his stories, or let him think he was getting closer to me, it was all for a bigger purpose. A little part of me enjoyed watching him fall into the trap so easily, thinking he was in control.

He stepped even closer now, his gaze lingering just a little too long. "So, I was wonderin' what you doin' later?" His voice had that smooth, almost lazy confidence, like he knew what answer he was expecting to get.

I kept my cool, taking another sip of water before answering. "Hmm, I don't know, Melo," I said, dragging out the words just enough to make him think I was considering it. "I've got a pretty tight schedule for this tournament. Why?"

He grinned, leaning casually against the ropes, looking too smug for his own good. "Thought we could hang out, maybe grab a bite somewhere, again. You know, take a break from all this training and kick it for a bit."

I resisted the urge to roll my eyes, instead giving him a small, thoughtful smile. I had to remind myself—this was all part of the game. Melo was the pawn, and soon enough, he'd be right where we needed him. But for now, I had to let him think he was calling the shots.

"Alright, maybe," I said, giving him a playful shrug. "I'll think about it."

He grinned, clearly thinking he was making progress. "Bet. I'll hit you up later then."
