The first day back at Hogwarts had been mostly uneventful

The first day back at Hogwarts had been mostly uneventful. Herbology had been the usual mix of dirt and plants, and Divination was predictably strange—though, for once, Professor Trelawney hadn't predicted anyone's gruesome fate. Beatrice left the classroom alongside Theo, who had stuck close to her all day, the two naturally gravitating toward one another as they walked through the corridors.

Now, standing in the entrance hall, they were lost in their own world, completely unaware of the noise around them. Beatrice leaned casually against one of the pillars, her arms crossed as she gazed up at Theo with a smirk that hinted at mischief. Theo stood close—closer than was strictly necessary—but neither of them seemed to mind.

— You've been suspiciously quiet today, — Beatrice teased, raising an eyebrow. — Where's all that witty charm you usually bring to Divination? I expected at least three sarcastic comments by now. —

Theo laughed, his eyes lighting up as he looked at her. — Oh, you think I've been quiet? I've just been too distracted. Hard to think about anything when you're around, Lestrange. —

Beatrice pretended to be unimpressed, though her smirk widened. — Is that so? Distracted by what exactly? The class? The lesson on crystal balls? —

Theo took a step closer, his voice dropping a little lower as he replied. — Definitely not the lesson. — His gaze flicked briefly to her lips before meeting her eyes again. — Though I have to admit, you're more fascinating to look at than any crystal ball. —

Beatrice's stomach did a little flip, but she raised an eyebrow, refusing to let him fluster her so easily. — That's not a very high bar, considering Trelawney's crystal ball is usually filled with nothing but smoke. —

Theo chuckled, his hand brushing against hers as he leaned just a little closer. — Maybe. But I've always preferred things with more depth... and mystery. —

— Are you calling me mysterious, Theo? — Beatrice's tone was teasing, but there was a hint of curiosity behind it.

— I'm saying there's a lot more to you than meets the eye, — Theo replied smoothly, his voice softening. — And I intend to figure it all out. —

Beatrice felt her heart skip a beat, but she wasn't about to let him get the upper hand that easily. She gave him a sly smile, tilting her head slightly. — Good luck with that. People have tried, you know. —

Theo smirked, his confidence never wavering. — I'm not like most people, am I? —

— I suppose not, — Beatrice mused, letting her eyes linger on him for a moment. — Though you're definitely full of yourself. —

Theo's grin widened, his hand casually brushing a stray lock of hair from her face. — And you like it. —

Beatrice pretended to think about it for a moment, biting her lip playfully. — Maybe a little. — She let out a soft laugh as Theo's expression turned smug, clearly enjoying the back-and-forth.
