As Beatrice stepped into the maze, the weight of the darkness pressed in around her, as though the shadows themselves were watching, waiting. The maze stretched out before her, an endless labyrinth of towering hedges that seemed to shift and move in the dim light. The air was thick and damp, and the silence was almost suffocating. Her heart thudded in her chest, but she forced herself to take a steady breath.
She flicked her wand, muttering a quiet Lumos, and a soft light flickered to life at the tip. The glow cast an eerie shadow on the walls of the maze, illuminating the twisting, unfamiliar paths ahead. Her steps were slow at first, tentative, as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. Every corner seemed to offer a new mystery, every turn a potential threat. But her mission was clear. She had one goal, one task: find Harry.
Her thoughts were laser-focused. Dumbledore trusts me. Sirius believes in me. I can't let them down.
Her footsteps echoed as she moved cautiously, her senses heightened, aware of every sound, every shift in the air. Her mind raced, scanning for any sign of Harry, but there was nothing, only the heavy silence of the maze.
The path ahead was winding, the hedges high and imposing, but Beatrice couldn't afford to be distracted. Not when Harry's safety was at stake. She moved forward, staying close to the walls, watching every step. The further she went, the more the darkness seemed to close in, the maze growing more oppressive with each passing second.
Focus. Stay calm. You can do this, she told herself, trying to push the anxiety threatening to rise in her chest back down.
Suddenly, the faintest noise reached her ears, footsteps, distant, echoing from deeper within the maze. She froze, straining to listen.
Her pulse quickened as she tightened her grip on her wand, casting a glance around her, trying to gauge which direction the sound was coming from. She had to stay alert. The maze was full of surprises, and she couldn't afford to be caught off guard.
Suddenly, she heard a low hiss. It was barely audible at first, but it grew louder, the sound slithering through the air. Her heart skipped a beat as she turned toward the source. Out of the shadows, large, menacing shapes began to emerge. Giant spiders. Their massive bodies gleamed in the faint light from her wand, their eight eyes glowing a sickly yellow, and their legs clicking ominously against the ground.
Beatrice's breath hitched. She could feel her pulse racing as she instinctively took a step back. The spiders began to circle her, their movements eerily synchronized. She raised her wand, pointing it directly at the closest one.
— Spiders... great, — she thought bitterly. — Focus, Bea. You've faced worse.—
Beatrice gritted her teeth, her wand raised in a tight grip as the massive spiders closed in around her. She could feel their venomous gaze burning into her as they skittered across the ground, their legs making a chilling clicking sound that echoed in the silence. She didn't have time to waste. She needed to act fast.
