It was a relief to everyone in Coldburne that the sky had slowly turned its original sky blue. It calmed several parents, including Lily's. They were seriously considering making her miss a couple of days of school if it didn't clear up.
It seemed like many other parents were okay with their own kids coming back. From all the talk going around, Lily heard that 50% of all the students that are enrolled, came to school for the past two days. Some teachers even stayed home to avoid being exposed to the smoky air.
The amount of students in Lily's choir classroom looked like it was going back to normal. There was 15 at most out of the 30. Now there was 27 out of 30 when she got out of class.
Now that the school day was done, Lily got to experiment with the new phone Mrs. Vesper let her borrow. It was just a used IPhone 6s that she used for two years. The instructor had just gotten a new one, so she had no use for it now.
However, Lily did have to hide it from her parents and sisters, even though they all have phones themselves. It didn't make sense why she was the last one to get a phone. She was the middle child and one of the responsible sisters out of the three. Sofia was always messy and loosing her stuff in that mess. While, their older sister is Jessica was ten years older and had a job at a Macy's. She had the right to have a phone. Heck, she even bought herself one.
Lily was excited to have this secret phone. Her parents would want it taken away from her if they ever found out she had it. They would want to see what she was doing on it since it was her teacher that gave it to her. Many questions would be asked, but there were none that she could answer.
As Lily started to head over to Mrs. Vespers classroom for another training session, she continued naming the profiles of the numbers of each student in the Guardians. When she got to doing Raynes, a random pair of hands grabbed onto both her shoulders with a force pushing her forward.
"Hey, Lily!" A girl sounding voice practically shouted in her ear, with what it seemed like excitement.
Lily turned around and remembered who the girl, Arabella was immediately after taking one good look at her. She had her curly jet black hair tied in a loose pony tail, and wore black and white checkered Vans, loose blue jeans, a light pink shirt with a kid drawing of a while and said, "vineyard vines." It was understandable that she was wearing also wearing a burgundy sweatshirt. Weirdly enough, it was getting colder and colder each day.
"Hi?" Lily questioned at the sudden startle Arabella gave her.
Her odd smile stayed up while asking, "What's up? We haven't talked one on one in a while."
Lily nodded. "Yeah, but I just thought you guys had stuff going on? With being 7th grader and all?"
"Yeah, but that doesn't mean we can't stop hanging out."
For some reason, Lily stomach filled up with nerves after the suggestion. "So what's up?"
Lily shook her head, trying to focus on talking with Arabella. "Uh, nothing. Nothing really."
"Seriously? I would have thought that you would have had a few assignments to work on?"
"Yeah, but I got it covered." Lily did not expect a confident response like that coming out of her mouth. The other three must be rubbing off on her.
Arabella frowned with confusion. "Uh Okay? Well, I have to go. I'll talk to you later." Weirdly, it did sound like someone wanted Arabella. Her phone that was protected with a pink phone case kept buzzing.
Lily said her goodbyes as she watched Arabella rush to the front of the school. Maybe her mom was picking her up being impatient that she didn't arrive at the time school ended? Lily knows all about that.
"Eeeeviilll." It sounded like it whispered right in her ear. It felt close enough that it sent shivers down her neck, and probably because she had never heard a voice like that in her head before. Months ago, she would have thought she was going crazy, but now, she believed that it was her Guardian.
Everyone should be at the classroom by now. Lily thought. She was only suspecting, but it felt like something was going on with Arabella. Mainly bad.
She didn't want to waste time with all the HI's and Hello's so she just shouted, "I think I know who the evil student is." Once she entered the room. Their heads shot up after Lily's outburst. It didn't look like they were doing much. Most of them were in their chairs. It even sounded like they were talking, but mostly George and Rayne.
"You do?" Mrs. Vesper was the first to ask or at least say something.
"Who?" Vincent asked after.
"Arabella...uh Travers? I think that's her last name."
Mrs. Vesper walked to stand infront of her desk and asked, "You sensed it?"
"Yeah?" Lily answered and then added. "I also heard my guardian say 'Evil' after I talked to her, so that was another big clue." Revealing more of what happened did help relieve some tension ahead she had in her shoulders.
Randomly, Vincent mentioned, "Wait, I'm in a class with her and I have been near her at times. Why couldn't I sense any power from her?"
"Probably because you haven't been training as much as Lily to access that part of the Guardian?" Mrs. Vesper had to mention. "I told you guys that you need to improve your abilities to improve your senses." Lily didn't want this to turn into a lecture. Vincent brought it on himself.
Vincent sighed and quietly said, "Fine."
Lily did think she was overworking herself compared to the rest of the group of kids. It was the fact that the teachers insisted that they train as much as they can for their future. All that pressure built up in Lily and motivated her to work harder on her ability. At this rate, she might have been training a bit too hard.
When Mrs. Vesper was looking through another history textbook she asked, "Lily, you said you sensed the evil from Arabella, was it overwhelming?"
"Uh No? It wasn't. I just felt fear and anxiety as I talked to her."
"Huh." The instructor hummed.
"What?" George asked for the students.
"Arabella must be one of many evil people."
"There could be more?!" Rayne exclaimed.
Mrs. Vesper frowned. "Unfortunately."
"You said, you felt one student could have evil powers." Vincent reminded her.
She nodded. "Evil powers can be overwhelming to a Guardian. It depends on if they share a piece of their powers to others."
"They can do that?" Rayne wondered.
"It is possible...and painful." Mrs. Vesper lowered her voice on the last part. She gulped. "Splitting any magic beings power is painful. Good or bad. The magic one contains is stuck to the beings soul. Someone pretty powerful and good concentration must have helped her."
"It could be why we are all needed." George suspected. "Arabella has a team, so we needed to be a team."
"What a good team we are." Vincent mumbled.
It looked like his remark helped fuel Mrs. Vesper's pride and enthusiasm. She knew they were going to be a great team.
"You guys are just starting out." She said. "Soon you will see what a great team you are."
