For a week, Mrs. Vesper had the kids stretch out their bodies and muscles to prepare for what she had planned. It was difficult to make them understand that what they were working for was serious. George and Vincent kept on battling heads which made the girls have to get in the middle some of the time.
There were also instances where most of the group would make jokes during warm ups. It was mostly Vincent making them. It seemed like warming up was just time away from them having to do middle school homework. However, Mrs. Vesper did some improvement towards the end of the week.
She introduced them to some complex exercises that did get them under breath, enough to where none of them could joke about everything again.
Just as the four students understood most of the warm ups, some had a bit of trouble preforming them, Mrs. Vesper knew they were ready for the next step.
At the end of Monday's class, she didn't say anything but her usual, "I'll see you after school." So it was eerie to see her not in her classroom at the end of the school day.
"Didn't Mrs. Vesper tell us to meet her here after school?" Rayne asked, wondering if her heightened hearing worked at the time.
Vincent dropped his backpack against a random desk. "She just said her usual 'See you all after school, or something like that."
"So none of you talked to her about it?" George questioned. Everyone shook their heads. "Great."
As the three put their backpacks down, Lily checked around the teachers desk. Mrs. Vespers laptop and bag weren't there. At first, she did assume that Mrs. Vesper probably forgot they were meeting after school. But, she did see a post it stuck on the left edge of the desk saying, "Go to gym."
"Uh Guys, I found something."
Since Rayne was closest to her, she was the first out of the three to read the note out loud.
"Why couldn't she just tell us to be there during class?" Vincent complained.
"And why do we have to go there?" George wondered. "Wouldn't be closed by now?" He did have a point. It was going to be 4 soon.
Lily folded up the note saying, "Well, let's see for ourselves."
The three followed Lily out of the classroom and to the big orange colored gym, that connected with the 7th and 8th grade boys and girls locker rooms, including two other PF rooms that they have yet traveled to. The kids didn't know if they should be excited to soon find out what were in those rooms. That would mean that their PF units were getting tougher than what they are doing now.
From looking into the big windows that connected to the big giant glass doors, the four could see that the gym's light was off. They couldn't see past the entrance from how dark it was inside. Vincent kept on saying if the lights were off then the gym had to be closed on all sides of the place.
He was quickly proven wrong when Lily casually pulled open one of the glass gym doors. That shut Vincent up, with the rest being speechless, even Lily.
"How'd you do that?" George gasped, starting to feel shaky about this moment.
"I-I don't know." Lily said.
"We won't get any answers if we are standing here." Rayne walked past the three to see what was really going on. The boys in after, both now feeling interested more than ever. However, Lily's fear of the dark held her back. She wished there was a clear explanation to why she was afraid of it, but since she was little she hated sleeping with no light. But if there were others in the same room, it calmed her down, only a bit though.
With a shaky breath and hands that she put in her sweater pockets, Lily walked in to see what the heck was going on.
The kids were whispering their suspicions about what Mrs. Vesper would have wanted them to do. They offered to check the entrances that were at all four walls of the gym to see if Mrs. Vesper was on her way. Before, they could try anything, all of the lights flashed on at once, blinding their eyes for a second, until they adjusted to the sudden change. The children mumbled all over wondering what was going on.
Their questions were answered when a voice from behind them said, "I was hoping one of you would find my note."
The four turned around to see Mrs. Vesper walking from the back corner entrance of the building and wearing something that they have never seen a teacher wear before. Not even a male one at that.
It was black stretchy tights, light blue sports bra and a black t shirt over it, along with all black tied Nike shoes. It looked like she was going for a run.
"A pretty vague one at that." Vincent mumbled just enough for the others to hear.
"Yeah, why are we here?" Rayne out of nowhere asked quite angrily.
"Can't you see, Rayne?" Mrs. Vesper asked. "We're here to improve your abilities."
Once Mrs. Vesper mentioned for her to see, everyone looked around at the changes that the instructor said would improve their abilities.
At each corner of the gym, there were four stations. In the back right corner had a big screen hanging on the wall. To the left, there was a mannequin that had a white male facial structure and coloring with no lower region. It looked like one of those statues that football players use to practice their tackling. On the other corners of the gym, there was a treadmill on one corner and student desks in a wide circle in the other.
The kids were confused on how these random stations would help them improve their abilities. It took some time for them to understand what Mrs. Vesper explained to them.
The station with the screen was for Rayne to help with her heightened hearing. The male mannequin was for George to work on his super strength. The treadmill is for Vincent's super speed. And the four desks are to help Lily's teleportation ability.
Some of the students were mesmerized from how these stations were designed. The stuff looked new. However, others still had questions.
"So that's it?" Rayne raised a brow. "We're just supposed to work on our abilities with some normal non magic objects?"
Mrs. Vesper held her head up high. "On the contrary, this is not all."
The kids kept quiet as Mrs. Vesper explained, "At the end of every training session, every one of you is expected to use what you learned in your stations on each other."
Eyes widened with shock, hearing that they have to fight each other, with their abilities. Can't something go wrong?
Anxiety filled the room and made others not say anything, except for George. "But what if we seriously hurt one another?"
She scoffed. "I doubt that will happen."
"How can you be so sure?" Lily crossed her arms.
"Why don't you guys try the stations out, then we will find out?"
"Would have been nice if we knew we were going to do this today." George mentioned. "I would have worn better clothes."
