Sithu sat in her classroom, the usual buzz of students replaced with a strange tension that had been growing over the past few days. She could feel it in the air—something was off, and her necklace, tucked under her shirt, pulsed gently against her skin, a constant reminder of the Krevathian presence looming closer. More fights had broken out among students, and even some of the teachers had become unusually short-tempered. The influence was spreading, not just within the school but throughout the town.
As she gathered her things to leave for the day, her thoughts turned to her meeting with Jaren. They had been planning to meet at their usual café spot, a place where they often caught up and shared ideas. This time, Jaren had been helping her organize a "Kindness Week" at the school, a project they hoped would counteract some of the growing negativity. Despite some teachers thinking it was a useless effort, they had already seen small changes, especially in Finn, who had been thriving since his friendship with Ethan blossomed.
When Sithu entered the café, the familiar smell of coffee and the sound of light chatter greeted her. Jaren was already seated at their regular table, a steaming cup of coffee in front of him. His face lit up as soon as he saw her approach.
"Hey, you look exhausted," he said with a playful grin as she sat down across from him.
Sithu sighed, running a hand through her hair. "It's been... a day. The school feels like it's about to fall apart, and I can't help but think it's more than just regular stress."
Jaren nodded, his expression turning serious. "Yeah, I've been noticing it around town too. People are snapping at each other over the smallest things. It's not just the kids."
They spent the next few minutes discussing the strange occurrences, but the conversation shifted to lighter topics when Jaren brought up the kindness project.
"I still think 'Kindness Week' is going to make a real difference," Jaren said, his voice full of optimism. "I know some of the teachers think it's just fluff, but the kids are responding, especially Finn."
Sithu smiled at the mention of Finn. "Yeah, Finn's been doing great. Ethan really has been a positive influence on him. He's even starting to stand up for himself, and the other kids are noticing."
Jaren's eyes lit up. "See? That's exactly what we're trying to do. If we can keep this momentum going, we might just shift the entire atmosphere."
As they brainstormed more ideas for Kindness Week, Sithu's mind kept drifting back to her necklace. The faint pulsing had become stronger ever since she arrived at the café. She didn't want to alarm Jaren, but it was clear something was happening. The Krevathians were getting closer.
After they wrapped up their plans for the event, Jaren leaned back in his chair, eyeing her curiously. "You've seemed distracted today. Is everything okay?"
Sithu hesitated for a moment. Jaren knew about Nymbrelis, about her connection to that world, but he still didn't know about the looming Krevathian threat on Earth. She wasn't sure how much longer she could keep it from him, especially since he was already getting involved by helping with the kindness initiative.
"I'm fine," she said finally, forcing a smile. "Just a lot on my mind with everything going on at the school."
Jaren didn't push her further, but she knew it was only a matter of time before he found out. The threat was growing, and soon, she'd have to tell him the full truth. As they left the café and parted ways, Sithu's heart felt heavier than before. The weight of her secret and the looming darkness around them was becoming harder to bear.
For now, she had to focus on the upcoming Kindness Week at school. If they could at least plant seeds of positivity, maybe it would slow the spread of Krevathian influence. But deep down, Sithu knew the battle was far from over.
