"Come in". A voice beckoned from within the office in response to Felix's knocking on the door.
Felix stepped into his director's office and closed the door behind him.
He bowed to him in greeting.
"Oh, Felix how're you?".
"I'm fine Sir". Felix replied feeling pressured by his aura.
"Though I'm glad that you decided to go ahead with the surgery, I can't help but be baffled, I know you well enough to infer that you wouldn't have accepted to perform the surgery just because of his identity based on hear say, or is there something I should know?". His director stared straight at him trying to read him but Felix's expression remained neutral and calm.
"Yes Sir, you're right, I didn't agree to it because of his identity but because I don't want him dead, I can't leave with that type of guilt knowing there's something I can do to prevent it from happening". He explained without flinching keeping the intense eye contact with his director.
He was telling the truth but there's a partial lie mixed with the truth.
"Ok, since that's your reason, you're dismissed".
"Also, I'm sure you know what you're doing, if this surgery should fail, your career is over, clear?". He concluded sending him on his way.
Felix knew very well that the director wasn't trying to scare him, he meant it.
Immediately he came out from the director's office, there was Park Jimin waiting for him with a not so happy face.
He made to walk away when he stopped him.
"Why do you want to perform the surgery?".
"What do you mean?". Felix asked shifting from one foot to another cause of impatience.
"I heard". He said simply but that was enough for Felix to catch onto what he meant.
"So...".
"Is it because of me?". He asked on the verge of tears.
"Jim... Mr Park please go straight to the point, I can't make sense of what you're trying to say". Felix spat feeling his temper rise.
"Did you decide to perform the surgery because of me? You know my son could die but you still insist on performing the surgery, why?are you trying to get back at me. Felix I hurt you, I know I hurt you and I deserve every bit of suffering I'm going through now but my son's innocent, don't take it out on him, please, I'm pleading with you, please". He was already kneeling with tears streaming down his face non stop.
"Jimin, I admit I decided to perform the surgery because of you but not because I want to torture your son or kill him or anything, I will never stoop that low, it's because I want to prove to you and your father that I didn't deserve the humiliation that was inflicted on me by your family, I want him to regret everything he did to me, everything he said to me, that applies to you and everyone that took part in humiliating me, that's it, please don't make it sound like I'm doing something horrible, and get up from that floor, you look pathetic". He left immediately after his outburst.
He walked towards his office and took off his coat, then he walked to the dressing room and put on an unsterile gown and a surgical cap.
He walked into the OR, resident Yang draped him in a green scrub and he put on surgical loupe and a mask.
"Park Sung Hoon, Born on the 8th of December 2014, This is his Third Surgery, Second Open Heart, An Open Heart Appendectomy for a reoccurring Appendix, Dr Lee Felix Yong Bok is the Head Surgeon and Resident Yang Jeongin as an Assisting Surgeon". The CST spoke up.
"Let's proceed... Scalpel... Bovie..."
"Cut...". Felix said, the surgery ongoing but no action.
"His blood pressure is falling, Dr Lee". The CST spoke his tone urgent.
"Resident Yang Cut...". Felix ordered with a raised voice and Jeongin immediately snapped out of whatever thought he was in.
An hour into the surgery...
"Dr Lee His blood pressure has dropped to 90/60mm Hg". The CST informed.
"Foley Catheter". He requested and started draining the blood immediately...
He walked out of the OR after removing the bloodied gloves, his face gloomy and eyes dim.
He saw Jimin in the waiting room and walked towards him with the same gloomy face.
He stopped in front of him and shook his head sadly.
Upon seeing the expression on Felix's face Jimin felt his heart clench and an indescribable sadness flooded his heart.
Felix wanted to laugh out loud, God knows his expression's hilarious to Felix, but he still tried to maintain a level of professionalism in front of Jimin, he felt like that was the perfect revenge.
"We tried our best". He said shaking his head but he immediately felt like he has gone too far when he saw the tears rolling down Jimin's perfect face.
"And we saved him, congratulations Mr Park". He didn't give him a chance to say anything and left with a satisfied smile.
Stepping into his office all clean, he pulled out his phone and facetimed Hyunjin.
The older picked up almost immediately.
"Hey Felix".
"Hi".
He lips broke out into a wide smile mirroring mine.
"I take it the surgery went successfully". He deduced from the big smile on my face.
"Yeah, I'm so relieved". I smiled wider.
"You did it, I knew you could do it". He gushed.
Why does he look more happier than I am.
"Thank you for believing in me".
"There's nothing to be thankful for, you just know how to do your job, that's all". He assured me sounding modest.
I just rolled my eyes.
"When are you coming home, I miss you so much already".
"After two more surgeries".
"I can wait, I will get off the phone now so that you can have a little rest before your next surgery, I'm sure this one was mentally exhausting".
I could only nod, I definitely was mentally drained.
"You will tell me all about it when you get back, Yeah?". He asked waiting for my affirmation, which I did with a nod.
We said our byes and I laid my head on my desk immediately, Hyunjin's voice was what's keeping me awake and I was soon in wonderland when I couldn't hear it anymore.
