(chapter eleven)
We step onto the school grounds and take some time to catch our breath. I glance over to him, "Did we really have to run all the way here? I don't think anyone would notice if we're a couple minutes late". He quickly takes my hand and leads me into the festival, "I know, but I really wanted to look around before our performance". His eyes light up as he looks upon all the stalls of food and activities. He takes the initiative and makes his way to a food stall. He stands there for a while with an undecided look. The face he makes when he can't make up his mind is so cute. I lean in, "What's wrong?" He rests his head in his palm, "I don't know what to choose. I know the takoyaki is listed as their best selling item, but the Yakitori looks so good".
I slightly grin and turn towards the person who runs the stall, "Can I get the Takoyaki and the Yakitori please?" I lean into Katsuki and whisper into his ear, "I'll just get you both". He turns away from the food and towards me with an overjoyed expression. The kind lady hands me our food and I hand her cash in exchange. After scoping out the area I find a nice bench for us to sit at. I decide to sit across from him, so I can see every aspect that dawns his face. I can't stand not being able to see him for a second. He frowns for a moment then changes his look. He reaches into the bowl of food and waves a piece of Takoyaki in my face, "Here have some". He looks at me directly with a slightly blushed expression. He doesn't break away for a second. It was honestly kind of intimidating. I chuckle and take his offering. I take a bite and delicate flavors coat my mouth. I look up to find him starting to dig in, "WOAH, this is actually so good?? I'm glad you picked out both Katsuki".
A smile creeps onto his face as he glances at me, "Thanks for getting this for me. I always have a hard time choosing". I caress my hand across his face, "I want to make sure you have everything you could possibly want". The look of bliss on his face was enough to make my breath stop. He's practically glowing in this light. I exhale into a chuckle and patiently wait for him to finish eating. Even him eating is cute....Is that weird to say?
He nudges my side and suddenly he's standing over me, "Wanna get going? Our show is starting in an hour and I want to do some things first". I stand up from the table and grab his hand, "Lead the way Katsuki". His eyes soften and he drags me to a stand. I read the sign above it, "Face painting". We walk up towards the stall to find a little note reading, "An emergency came up! Help yourself to the amenities while we are away!" I look over at him to find a frown creeping onto his face. I tighten my grip around his and sit him down on a stool. "Just wait Katsuki, i'm gonna make you look ultra manly". He giggles, "I don't know if I trust your artistic skills. Your hand writing is basically chicken scratch".
I dip a paint brush into red paint and slash it across his face, "Oops... I guess I'm a little clumsy. Maybe it's because my artistic skills are lacking". He smirks and dips his hand into the same paint, scribbling a mustache across my face, "I'm feeling a little clumsy today too". I chuckle and continue to draw comical shapes on his face. He dips both of his hand into the paint and places them on my face while laughing. The look in his eyes is so magnetic. I feel myself being pulled in, I don't fight it though. I mean, how could I ever look away?
I can't break away from this gaze, his laughter has me in a chokehold. Every giggle that escapes his mouth leaves me in awe. He suddenly stops and meets my eyes. Am I in love? This feeling has left me gasping for air. I know I've been feeling like this for a while now, but I feel it so deeply now. It feels like I can't survive being away from him. The thought of him even leaving me for a second makes me frightened. I only want him to look at me that way. I want to be the only person he looks at like this.
I snap back to reality when I feel his lips brush against mine. It's quick, but it sends electricity throughout my entire body. I want him.... no.... I need him. He grabs my face with both of his hands, "What are you thinking about? You've been staring at me for about five minutes now". He chuckles and my heartbeat picks up. "Just you". His face starts to turn into a crimson red as he gets up from the stool, "Very smooth". He pauses, "We should probably go wash our faces off now". He looks at me for a second and breaks out into laughter. I get up from my stool, "Wait, what's so funny?" He hunches over then props himself up, "Your entire face is painted red". I touch my fingers to my face and bring them back into focus. They're completely covered in paint.... "Katsuki...."
He chuckles, then takes my hand, "Let's go find somewhere to wash this off". I let him drag me all the way through the festival until we find a bathroom. He damps a paper towel and rubs it across my face. I squint my eyes shut out of fear that paint will invade them, "Are you done yet???" He sighs, "It's taking a lot of strength to get this off, but don't worry Eijiro". He lightly pulls his fingers across my face, "I'll get it all off". God it feels like oxygen is escaping me faster than I can take it in, "I'll wait patiently then". After what feels like forever, he finally tells me I can open my eyes. I look in the mirror and a gasp of relief leaves my mouth. "I'm so happy this was removable". I turn towards him and realize he still has paint all over his face.
