I seriously don't know where to start my story. Let me start with my present. Today is New Year's Eve, I can't believe that tomorrow will be 2025. I am currently sitting in the third booth at the only restaurant and pub in White Deer, Texas. I just ordered a ribeye steak with french fries and a vodka tonic. It's my eighth day in this little town and my second official day mingling with the locals.
I seriously don't remember driving here. Not that there were any magical powers involved, I wish. Just the trusted old mental meltdown. Eight days ago I was one of the most sought out paediatricians in Dallas, Texas. I had a flourishing practice. I love kids, and seeing them happy and playing after I help them get well is always a joy.
I know you are wondering, what happened eight days ago, let me paint the picture. I woke up early, kissed the love of my life goodbye and rushed to work. I was happy. My life was good. All my dreams were coming true. I always wanted to establish my practice and get married by the time I was thirty. When Drew surprised me in front of my family and friends. I was over the moon. It was the most romantic thing anyone has ever done for me.Just imagine this, 'The sun was beginning its descent, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink. Drew and I stood at the edge of Oak Grove Park, overlooking the tranquil waters of Lake Grapevine. The air was filled with the sweet scent of wildflowers and the gentle lapping of waves.
As we watched the sun dip below the horizon, I felt a sense of peace wash over me. This was my favorite spot in the world, and I knew it was the perfect place for Drew to propose. But I never imagined it would happen so soon, especially after the incredible surprise picnic my friends and family had thrown for my 30th birthday.
The picnic had been a complete surprise. As I arrived at the park, I was greeted by a colorful spread of food and drinks, surrounded by loved ones. Laughter and conversation filled the air as we enjoyed a delicious meal and played games.Little did I know, Drew had been planning something even more special. As the sun began to set, he led me to a secluded spot beneath a towering oak tree. As I turned to face him, my heart raced with anticipation.
"My love," he began, his voice filled with emotion, "from the moment I met you, I knew you were the one. You've brought so much joy and happiness into my life. Will you marry me?"I couldn't believe my ears. I nodded eagerly, tears of joy streaming down my face. As he slipped the ring onto my finger, I felt a surge of happiness that I had never experienced before.
Our families and friends cheered and applauded, their faces beaming with joy. As the sun disappeared below the horizon, casting the lake in a soft, pink glow, Drew and I shared a tender kiss.'
Anyway, where was I? I went to work as a very happy woman. It was 2 days until Christmas and I love everything about the holidays. I was wearing my Christmas themed scrubs under my white coat as I did my rounds at the clinic. I have all the colors of candy canes to give to my little warriors in my pocket. By 3pm, the clinic was slow and I sent everyone home to be with family. I can't wait to be with Drew and our Australian shepherd, Teddy. The wind was whipping through my 4c hair as I drove home from work, the fading daylight casting a soft, golden glow on the city streets. My Mercedes radio was cranked up, a festive medley of Christmas carols filling the air. Mariah Carey's soaring voice belts out "All I Want for Christmas Is You," and I couldn't help but sing along, my voice a bit off-key but full of joy.
The only thing missing from my festive drive is snow, but being in Dallas, Texas, it's hardly a surprise. Still, I couldn't help but imagine the city transformed into a winter wonderland, with snow-covered streets and twinkling lights. The cheerful tune and the festive atmosphere lift my spirits, transforming my mundane commute into a magical journey.
As I pulled into my driveway, a wave of relief washed over me. The familiar sight of our townhouse brought a sense of comfort. I hopped out of my Mercedes, my scrubs rustling against my legs.
