PROLOGUE
Dear diary
My name is Maddy West. I got this as a present from one of my best friends in the world who insists that I need a diary. His name is Niall Horan. Yes I am aware that he is part of the biggest pop group in the world, One Direction, and yes I am very close with every one of them.
I fell in crazy-fan-girl-love with One Direction when I was 14 and was over the moon when I got tickets to their first concert in Brisbane. So I went along with my best friends Georgie (who has looks that could kill and envied chocolate flowing hair) and Rachel (three time state champion in the 200m butterfly). We had the best time, met them and got autographs! And then I looked into Harry’s eyes and something just clicked.
Next year they came back and we managed to get backstage tickets from a radio station. This time around there was enough time to sit and have a chat. We laughed a lot and got to know each other, and Rachel got pretty close with Zayn and they disappeared for a while. I was then very, very excited because when Harry and I were talking, he invited me to be his date for some music awards he had to attend in Melbourne at the end of the week.
Back at Georgie’s house we were jumping up and down in joy. Rachel was also going to go with Zayn, but Georgie didn’t mind not being invited because she already had a boyfriend, Brad. The next day, packages showed up with gorgeous dresses, shoes and private jet tickets. Since we were in year ten at an all-girls school, literally everyone loved One Direction; we quickly became very popular amongst the students.
Finally Friday arrived and we only went to school half the day, got home, changed into the ‘plane wear’ (which would have challenged even Georgie’s wardrobe) and met our limo. The boys grabbed our hands and off we went. There were twenty in the jet – everyone had a date, plus pilots, their manager and seven heavy body guards. We were greeted with dozens of paparazzi and thousands of screaming fans, so we had to be ushered into the back of the hotel. Then Rachel and I put on the most gorgeous dresses I had ever seen (and which were the talk of the town for some time) and stepped outside.
The attention we received after that was amazing. I instantly had modelling offers and interviews thrown at every day. Rachel was even offered a place at the QIS for her swimming. It was amazing to go shopping because everyone knew who we were and gave us free clothes. Hec, I was even in magazines. But the most surreal part was that we were inches away from One Direction themselves. After the boys went back to England, we would Skype heaps. Rachel and I eventually got used to who we were talking to, although it took a lot of coaching from Georgie to stop overreacting. Every day they would call and the three of us would have to sort out their bickering. It was great.
I was always very tight with Niall; he is like a brother to me. He might even be, the amount of stuff we have in common. Blonde hair, blue eyes, left handed, same height, loves food, older siblings by the same amount (Sally and Greg, who in fact, are getting married later this year), and our birthdays are at the end of the year. Liam was always very sensible and we didn’t seem to be very close but I knew he was always there if I needed to talk. Louis and I would always be pranking the others. Zayn was forever attached to Rachel. She even got him to stop smoking. Everybody thought Harry and I were an item, but we were just great friends who liked to drag the paparazzi along (definitely weren’t but we had our fun). I see the now boys whenever they come down under, as they always fit in room to visit and they were so great when I moved to Melbourne for a big modelling contract.
