Kenma was lying down on his bed. He was too sad. He didn't even want to play his video game. Why was he sad? Well, he had a crush, and he saw her holding hands with another guy. While he was walking back to his home from the convenience store, that's when he saw it go down.
He had been working up the courage to confess. Being the introvert he is, it was extremely hard. But now it was too late. His crush was you.
But the thing was, he had it all wrong. The guy you were holding hands with was your cousin. You weren't holding hands with him but gripping his wrist and dragging him back to his house. He had a fight with his mom and ran off, so everyone was out looking for him. You found him first, but he was refusing to go back. So, you grabbed a hold of him and forced him.
You didn't know Kenma saw it and misunderstood. If you did, you would have cleared everything up. Truth be told, you had a crush on Kenma. He was quiet, but he was nice to you. You found him smart, talented, and attractive.
*******
The next day, you were walking back to class from the bathroom when you overheard a conversation. You didn't mean to eavesdrop, but you heard your name, so it piqued your curiosity. When getting closer, you recognized the voices as Kenma and Kuroo.
Kuroo sighs, "Come on, man. You don't know if it was her boyfriend. Just talk to her."
Kenma answers, "I saw her holding his hand. It's no use. I'm too late."
"It could be just a misunderstanding. I talked to B/N (your best friend's name), and she said L/N doesn't have a boyfriend."
"I can't. It's no use. Besides, why would L/N even like me?"
You walked away before hearing anymore. You were stunned. Your mind was swirling with all kinds of things on your journey back to class. What boyfriend was he talking about? Does Kenma really like you? Why wouldn't you like him? Why was B/N telling Kuroo stuff about you? Was it your cousin, and he just misunderstood the situation? Was he there?
After school, you went to the gym. You were one of the managers for the volleyball team. That was how you met Kenma.
You noticed Kenma kept stealing glances of you. You decided that after practice you would talk to him. Now that you knew you stood a chance, nothing was going to hold you back.
Practice was done. You quickly made your way to Kenma before he could get too far. You wanted to make sure he knew you were single. The rest would be up to him.
You called out, "Kenma, can we talk?"
He nods. Kuroo just walks off to leave you two alone.
You proceed to walk along with him since you both live in the same general direction.
You sigh, "I overheard you talking to Kuroo. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hear. I was just walking back to class."
Kenma stops in his tracks and looks at you wide-eyed. You stop and turn to face him.
You continue, "I want to clear up something. I don't have a boyfriend. The person you saw me with was my cousin and I was dragging him home because he refused to come."
Kenma swallows the lump in his throat. His heart was pounding. If that's true, then he still had a chance. She really is single. He needs to get it out before someone else takes her.
He takes a deep breath, "L/N. I want ummm I like you."
You smile, "I like you too."
"Really?"
"Yes. That's why I wanted to make sure to clear the misunderstanding."
"So, are you my girlfriend now?"
"I would like to be."
He smiled. This threw you for a loop. It's not often he smiles.
You hear a bunch of gasps from some nearby. Turning to the sound, you both see almost the whole team staring at Kenma with wide eyes.
Kuroo points, "He just smiled."
Kenma scowls at them, then grabs your hand and drags you to his house for some privacy. You were laughing the whole way.
