Four years later, Shanks was named one of the Yonko, the strongest pirates in the New World, and with that, Kanae, being the person closest to him, raised her bounty, also getting a tattoo of the crew's Jolly Roger.

Two years later, it was a cold morning, something to be expected being in the snowy mountains. Kanae received that day's newspaper and was surprised to see a small article in particular: it was about her son Portgas D. Ace, better known by his nickname Hiken, who had defeated the Shichibukai Hanafuda and taken his position, they offered it to him, but he turned it down. Now he was wanted for a bounty of 100,000,000 berries. He had finally gone out to sea to make a name for himself.

"I'm going to kill him!" Kanae shouted, waking up all the crew members.

"What's the matter, honey?" asked Shanks yawning.

"One of my sons has become a wanted pirate! And a very wanted one."

"Son? You have children all over the world, Kanae," he commented half asleep, "and with me you don't want even one."

"No, you fool! This makes me very happy!"

"Happy, you say? But you're going to kill him."

"Yes, for not visiting me."

"That's all you cared about, huh..."

"You could get to know each other," she smiled. "But I forbid you to hurt him."

"That depends on him."

A few days after the news, strangely the atmosphere felt warm. Shanks was the first to notice it, Kanae and Beckman followed. They ignored it a bit and it was time for lunch, halfway through the event a boy arrived along with a crewman, announcing that he wanted to greet Shanks. Shanks took it as a threat and released his Haoshoku Haki, but the boy was not weak enough to faint.

"It's not what you think..." The boy backed away a little and apologized.

The boy was too formal, everyone was surprised and some found his attitude funny, it was rare to see these days in young people. Kanae quickly approached them interrupting the escene, she had just arrived with utensils that she ended up throwing on the floor when she saw the boy.

"A-Ace..." she stammered, she couldn't believe it.

"Mom, I came to visit you!" He raised his arms.

"Aceee!" She ran into his arms. "I've heard so much about you! It took you so long to see me."

"I'm sorry, it's good to see you again, but... I didn't just come to visit you." He looked at Shanks.

Shanks invited him to sit with them and Ace was able to introduce himself, but he was quite nervous, some of them were laughing about it. Ace offered them drink confessing that Makino was the one who told him to do it, Ace had taken the trouble to learn all this so he could talk to Shanks. Talking about the east blue brought back memories for many.
