Sophia
After finishing my study session, I went to the kitchen to make some dinner. As I was chopping vegetables, I heard my mom's phone ringing. Her tone during the conversation changed, and I could tell something was off. When she hung up, she came into the kitchen with a worried expression.
'There's an emergency at work, and I need to leave right now... I'm not sure when I'll be back.'
My father passed away, so it was just the two of us. The thought of being alone in the house filled me with anxiety. I told her:
'I don't like sleeping alone. It makes me uneasy.'
Mom paused, then said:
'Why don't you call Kee and ask her to come stay with you?'
I immediately called Kee, but her response made my stomach drop:
I'm out tonight, Soph. Can't make it"3"
Seeing my discomfort, my mom said:
'It's okay, darling. I spoke to Lucy. You can stay at her place.'
The idea of staying at Lucy's place gave me a sense of dread. And then there was Mattia... How could I stay in the same house as Mattia after what I'd done? After what I'd sent him? I replied quickly:
'No! I don't want to stay there.'
But then, realizing there wasn't much choice, I sighed and said:
'Fine, I'll stay home alone.'
Mom wasn't convinced:
'You'll be scared. I won't let you stay by yourself.'
I hesitated before I asked, almost whispering:
'How can I stay there? How am I supposed to face Mattia? Especially after that message I sent him?'
My stomach turned as I remembered the words I'd typed so impulsively: I thought you'd be good at kissing
Oh my God
what was I thinking? His reply had been rude, and I felt so embarrassed. How could I even look him in the eye after that?
Then another question crept into my mind: What was I expecting from him anyway? I couldn't shake the feeling of dread about being under the same roof with him.
Mom, unaware of the internal turmoil I was in, tried to reassure me:
'Lucy will make sure everything's okay. You'll be comfortable.'
She sent a quick message to Lucy on WhatsApp, and within minutes, Lucy responded, confirming everything was set for me to stay. I still felt a pit in my stomach as I thought about facing Mattia, but I had no other option."
