Loud yelling and the thunder of soldiers running after him echoed through the abandoned streets of Allports forgotten district. It looked like no one had been here in millennia and with how Chip stumbled over vines and debris he was sure it didn't just look like it.
His lungs were burning as he cut a corner, running to pass the building, eventually pressing himself against the cold stone as the soldiers passed by.
As he felt the relief of having escaped he finally looked up and took in his surroundings. A market place and in the center the stairs leading up to a beautiful building, with arches that held stained glass windows, a cross sitting proudly upon the highest tower. He felt something inside his chest gravitating towards it. It looked like a place of worship, but yet so different from the temples of Aster and Lunadeia in the big cities of the world.
His feet carried him closer, up the few stairs to a half opened door. It weighed heavy in his chest, an unexplainable emotion taking a hold of him as his throat tightened with tears and his heart filled with warm anticipation. He pushed past the door and was enveloped by the scent of... Home? Wood lacquer and salt like the ship, weaved into a full picture with the faint scent of incense.
He choked up as he walked down the aisle, between the rows of benches, up to two more stairs, halting in front of them.
His eyes wandered up the stairs, to an altar with a book on it and above it a cross with a man crowned by thorns held onto it by nails. And he looked at him, looked at his suffering and couldn't help the tears from escaping.
A sob ripped from his throat as he sank to his knees, hands pressed flat against the cold ground. And despite no one else being around he didn't feel alone.
