"Are you sure?", Drey asked as they stood in front of a map to figure out the course.
"Yes", Chip said and Finn opened the logbook and helped Jay figure out a course.
"We'll go through Allport for this", she said, "Sure that's safe for us?" "Did danger ever stop us?", Chip asked and smirked as he pushed himself off the table, snatching his Bible from one of the shelves and saluting them, "I'll be off for a bit, but I'll be back for dinner" "Don't get lost", Jay said, eyes still on the map. "Now I'll do it on purpose", Chip said and she scoffed with a smile, shaking her head.On his way out of the kitchen of the keep he found Ollie and his mum sitting on the sofa in the living room, reading together.
Ollie's eyes were lit up with pure curiosity and Ella looked at peace like never before.
When she heard his steps she looked up and waved him over. "I wanna tell you something", she said and he sat down with them. "Yeah, what's up?", he asked and she looked around quickly before whispering. "There's a church in the woods behind the tower. It's more of a chappell, but you get the idea.", she said, "So in case you need a place to pray in peace, that's the one" "Didn't they destroy the churches here?" "They probably missed it, cause it's a little hidden, but I'm sure you'll find it" "Thank you", he said and smiled at her, before looking over at Ollie and ruffling his hair as he stood up, "See you at dinner" "See you later!", Ollie said, waving as Chip went outside. The brunette slipped the Bible into his bag and made his way to the tower, beginning to search the woods for the chappell.
"Jesus, help", he said out of breath after searching for way longer then anticipated.
He leaned against a tree and caught he breath, when he looked around, suddenly noticing a doorway in the distance at the cliffside that dropped down behind the west side of the hill that held the tower.
He laughed. "Thank you"He walked over, cutting back some vines in the way, before finally reaching the chappell.
It was unique as it almost looked like the stone of the cliff was swallowing part of it, while the front with the small spire that held the rusted cross held the opened doors that invited him inside.
The floor was steeped around the door area and the surrounding plants had grown into the entrance, moss growing over the back rows. A small altar was at the end of the short aisle, a cross hanging on the wall behind it. To the left of the door there was a spiral staircase leading to a higher platform with access to the stained glass window.
Chip imagined people standing up there during service back in the day when the rows of seats were already taken. He went up to the altar and kneeled before it, whispering quietly to God. "Dear father, thank you for this day and the people in my life, please watch over me as I spend my time dwelling in your house, give me the eyes to perceive the truth in your word, give me the ears to hear you, give me the heart to feel your loving presence as you help me understand your heart and will. Amen."
He stayed on his knees for a moment, taking a deep breath, feeling the rush of the day falling off of his shoulders and with the relief in his body he got up and decided to sit by the window in the upper level of the chappell. He opened the Bible and grabbed a pen from his bag as well, annotating a psalm for a start. He had grown fond of the Bibles music and poetry and caught himself more and more often revisiting Psalm 23, feeling the calm it brought him with every new read through. He swayed left and right as he quietly recited the words of the 23rd Psalm, praying over it, before slowly letting the book sink into his lap, closing his eyes.
"Thank you, Lord, that no one can harm me for I am with you. Thank you, Lord, for preparing a table for me in Front of my enemies, so they know I'm your son and no weapon they form against me will prosper. Thank you, Lord, for the joy you fill my days with, for the cup of mine that overflows with your grace and goodness. You are my good Shepherd and when I was lost you came after me, knowing I can't do anything without you. Knowing that you are all I need. Knowing that I will find true joy in you. Knowing that my purpose is bringing Glory to your name and spreading your light in this dark world. Give me the courage to fulfill my calling, give me the strength to prevail against evil, give me the heart to feel empathy even for those who wronged me. In Jesus mighty name, Amen."He picked a scripture for the day and took some notes on the side of the page, trying to make sense of the things he didn't understand fully, deciding on what to ask Marie's advice on in his next letter.
It gave him peace, yet there was something in his heart that made it weigh heavy in his chest and just as he stood in front of the altar again, about to say a last prayer and give thanksgiving for the bible study session it fell off his heart in a quick succession of words. "I'm so nervous, Lord", he said, feeling his hands tremble as he realized what had weighed them down, "What if she doesn't recognize me? What if she did abandon me on purpose? Please Lord, take my anxiety away"His hands and knees pressed against the cold floor, as he bowed his head down to almost touch the floor. His heart felt like it was tugged on with every shaking breath as he poured his worries out for the Lord to take and make sense of. "Jesus, help me", he choked out as the tears slowly came into his eyes, "I know a woman who worships you wouldn't leave her child on purpose, show that truth to my heart so it may be light again. I surrender the anxiety to you, because I know I can't fight it alone, Lord"
A warmth spread from the top of his head down his spine, filling his entire body as he laid his worries to Jesus' feet and he could feel it in his entire body. He wasn't fighting alone.
