KASHI'S POV

And then, suddenly, the gunshot echoed through the room.

The man's body jerked violently before collapsing to the floor. His grip on me loosened as he fell lifeless, blood splattering where the bullet struck his forehead.

I screamed, stumbling backward, my hands flying to my mouth. The man was dead—right in front of me. His vacant eyes stared up at the ceiling, and I couldn't tear my gaze away. My whole body trembled uncontrollably.

"Sweetheart."

I snapped my head toward the doorway. Adhikrit stood there, panting, sweat dripping down his face. His white shirt was stained with drops of blood, clinging to him and almost see-through from sweat. His chest heaved with every breath, and in his hand, the gun hung loosely.

Without thinking, I ran to him, my legs shaky beneath me. I threw myself into his arms, clutching him tightly, burying my face in his chest as my tears soaked through his shirt. He was here—he had saved me.

"I... I thought you were gone," I sobbed, gripping his shirt as if letting go would make him disappear again.

He wrapped his arms around me protectively, holding me close. His heartbeat raced against my cheek, and I felt the slight tremble in his hands as he stroked my hair. "We're safe, sweetheart," he murmured, his voice hoarse and exhausted.

Tears kept flowing, everything from the past and present overwhelming me. "Did he hurt you?" he asked softly. I shook my head, no. His arms held me gently as he lifted me in his arms. "He... he was trying to..." I stammered between sobs, unable to finish.

Suddenly, his grip tightened. "Hold on to me," he warned. I clung to him, my arms wrapping around him tighter. I felt his hand move away from me as he held me from one arm, and before I could react, more gunshots rang out, fired into the lifeless body of the man. The sound made me flinch.

"Adhikrit, stop!" I cried, burying my face deeper into his neck.

"No one can take you away from me," he whispered, his voice trembling with anger.

I held on to him, needing his warmth, trying to convince myself this wasn't a nightmare.

"Please, let's go," I whispered softly.

His grip tightened around me again as he kissed the top of my head and began walking.

"Shh..." he whispered, perhaps to the people around him, as the chaos outside turned silent when we walked. I stayed quiet too, not wanting anyone to hear me crying.

"Come on, you need to sleep now, sweetheart. It was all just a bad dream, baby bull's mamma," he whispered in my ear, so lovingly that it sent butterflies through me. His hand gently stroked the back of my neck, turning my mind blank.
