The Love in Between

Chapter 9

"My Lady,are we really going to take him with us?"Blaire looks worried as she nervously gazed at the sleeping Adam on my lap.

     We currently just arrived at the human world in the city and is now sitting on a limousine taking us to the main office of the Nixon Empire.We were delayed for a few hours because of the lecture that the king gave me about sibling love but he did not say anything to decline my offer of taking care of Adam or more of like he did not care.

"Don't worry Blaire.Adam is an obedient child,he won't cause any trouble besides I trust that you will do a better job on taking care of him while I'm in the meeting."Blaire sighed.

"It can't be helped then,My Lady."Blaire calls me "My Lady" in the human world.

     When we arrived,we were ushered to the top floor immediately.I was expecting the father of Zane to be sitting behind the desk and that helped me calm my nerves a moment ago but it seems like my calculation is wrong since Zane is personally sitting there.The surprised and shocked look can be surely be noticeable in both our faces.I'm doomed but by the way,he looks so handsome in his tux and there's no ring on his hand.Well at least that made me happy but when his expression changed to an intense stare,my confidence plummeted.

"Ron,why don't you take Luna Sirene's secretary and son to the other room and entertain them.I'll take care of this business myself."Zane said while his gaze is still on me.Son?

     I turned away from his gaze and that's when I noticed the tall and dark guy on the side,must be Zane's secretary.

"My Lady?"Blaire looks uneasy as she held Adam's hand.I nodded to her to reassure her and she hesitantly followed the guy out of the room.Total silence followed as I just stood there waiting for Zane to say something.

"You can sit."I heard him say and I immediately obeyed.I can feel that he's really angry.Actually there's really no reason for me to be scared but Zane just make me feel this way.A mere human making me feel this way is really ridiculous.

"Uhm...Should I apologize?"I mumbled and flinched when his palm went down with a bang on the desk.

"What were you thinking?!Why didn't you wait for me?!Did you know that Jean almost died for not eating for days because she was depressed when you left?!"Zane was now standing but I don't understand.

"What exactly are you angry about?"

"Everything!You could have at least said goodbye before you left!"He was now in front of me."You don't know how much suffering you've put me through!"

"Zane,I-"I was suddenly engulfed in a hug.I just froze,stunned by the sudden move.

"I thought I won't be able to see you again."He murmured."I know you're married but please let me hold you just this once."That snapped me back to my senses and I gently pushed him off me but his hand is still grasping my shoulders as if to make sure that I don't run away.

"I'm not married."I frowned when he raised his eyebrow at me.

"Then a one night stand?"I looked at him with an expression of disbelief.

"What are you talking about?"I gasped.Is he talking about Adam?"Wait,if this is about that boy earlier,that's my little brother,you idiot!"He blinked.

"Your little brother?Wait,how old is he?"

"4,why?"He's thinking of something isn't he?

"You have a brother who is almost 16 years younger than you?"I was right,he is thinking of something weird.

"Zane if you have forgotten,mermaids,remember?"

"Oh right."He let me go and I crossed my arms.

"By the way,the situation was reversed.Aren't you suppose to be married?"I just want to make sure if he really is married or not.

"About that,I was gone on that week because I was taking care of that.My old man was the one who arranged that without my knowledge so no,I'm not married."Well,that's a relief but really,what am I exactly expecting?"Anyway,what's up?"

"What?"Zane motioned me to the sofa on the side,must be used on a meeting.

"What exactly are you doing here?It's definitely not that you want to appear in front of me is it?"I wish it was that personal.

"No,it was just a coincidence that this happened."Zane looks irritated.

"I knew it,you really have no plans to ever see me again."I laughed nervously.Oops?

"Aside from that,why the hell won't you sign a contract with us?"

"What contract?"Zane looks genuinely confused.

"Oh right,I'm the CEO of the Trident Inc. now since my father stepped down from the throne."

"Well that's new,I didn't know you're a royalty and mermaids have business here as well."This time,it's my turn to be irritated.

"Don't change the subject!"I hissed.

"I'm not and it's not that I want to refuse your offer,making business with you guys would be an asset,that's what I think but the main problem is my old man.He's stubborn!"Zane's mood suddenly changed to complete irritation as he rested his chin on his hand.

"Your father?"

"He said that your father offended him in a party before by saying that he's really an stubborn old man.I don't know what the hell is wrong with that since it's quit true,I guess he didn't want others stating his flaws but I think he doesn't know that you're the new CEO now."He sighed.

"Your father has some grudge issues or are all humans like this?"

"Maybe since I still have some grudge left for leaving just like that."Zane smirked when I scowled.

"Are we still on that topic?"

"Oh we're never going to get out of that topic."He looks serious.

"Hey,I saved your butt."

"I'm too mad to show my gratitude."I guess the annoying feelings for him hasn't changed huh?

"Whatever,I'm here for business so let's leave personal matters for later."He raised his eyebrow at me.

"So if we solve this business that you came for,you'd deal with this personal matter of ours?"I gulped.

"That's not what I meant."

"Then are you going to leave just like before?Without a word again?"

"No!"I gasped when he smirked.

"Then it's a deal.We'll get that contract then after that you better not run away."

"You say that but you don't even know how to get that contract."

"That's simple,we'll just simply go and meet my father on our mansion.Dress up for dinner tomorrow."He winked.

      What exactly is he trying to do?But more importantly,Is this really okay?
