The Love in Between

Chapter 4

I don't know why but my whole body is aching.I opened my eyes and came face to face with a confused Zane who's still on top of me just looking at me,somehow I just feel more annoyed.

"Since you're awake,why don't you get off me now?"I managed to say through greeted teeth.

"What the hell is going on?Who are you?"I stretched when he got off me.Goodness!I feel like I carried the whole world the whole night,my body's pain won't go away with just a stretch.My body is painful,mermaid or not,I'm a normal human in land.

"Instead of asking that shouldn't you be apologizing?"I winced when I tried to move my arms.

"What?"I glared at him.I really wish I can hit him but just moving a muscle makes me wince.

"I'm your new neighbor next door and yesterday,you were playing your music too loud so I knocked on your door.I barged in when you won't listen to me then you tried to rape me then fainted on top of me."I'm getting more and more annoyed just seeing his face.

"Then it's your fault for barging in."Ugh the nerve of this man!I stood up but stiffen when I felt like my knee is gonna give away with it's numbness.

"Whatever.Your fever is gone,I took care of you and yet this is how I get treated!"I muttered as I drag myself out of his room and to mine.

Water can't even cure it,if only I had that necklace.I should have snatched it when I had the chance but I got annoyed and left.My first day in the human world would be a disaster with this kind of body.After suffering from putting on a jean and a random polo then a shoes that I managed to find that has no heel,I picked up the bag that has been labeled as school from the living room.

"Idiot neighbor!"I shouted when I felt it again.The pain is like a wave that come and goes.

"I heard that!"I thought he already left.

"You were meant to!"I shouted back then went out to slam the door with the strength that I have left but regretted it dearly when the pain targeted my hand.I gritted my teeth in frustration.

"Luna are you okay?"Jean was just coming out of her room.

"I'm fine just bad luck from last night I guess.I slept the wrong way."I laughed awkwardly.I'll never tell anyone that I was with that jerk.

"Hey neighbor!"My hair stood up with that voice.Jean blushed when she looked behind me.There's Zane in jeans and a black shirt and a leather jacket.I hate to admit it but he looks cool.The necklace is hidden inside his shirt but I can still see the chain that holds it.

"Jean ignore him and let's go."I managed to push Jean past Zane but waiting for the elevator stopped us and Zane was beside me in a moment.

"Can't you at least comb your hair?"He said and touched my hair,I let him,I'll just hurt myself if I hit him.Legends about mermaids combing their hair every time is just a myth.

"I couldn't care less on how I look.Because of last night,just moving my hands would electrocute me."I said in an uninteresting voice as he combed it with his hand.

"Alright already,I'm sorry."He turned to Jean who was watching and listening to us with a red face."Hi Jean,do you have a hair brush that I can borrow?"Jean immediately took one out from her bag and handed it to Zane like a robot."Thanks."

The elevator doors opened and we went in and Zane managed to brush my hair before we were out of the elevator.Somehow it's confusing but I'm okay with it when he did it.It felt...like it was normal.Zane separated with us at the school entrance then Jean dropped me off at the faculty room after explaining to her on what happened last night.She seems excited rather than jealous.

After greeting the teachers,I was led by my adviser to my new room.When I entered,Zane caught my eyes immediately and got more annoyed when I saw an empty chair beside him.Their table is a small elongated table that can only fit two person.

"Class she will be your new classmate as of today.Please introduce yourself."The teacher nodded at me.

"I'm Luna Sirene and I'll be in your care starting today.Let's get along well."I heard a few hi and hello from the class.

"Mr. Nixon will be your class partner."As predicted I was sat next to him.He smirked.

The whole 2 hour period was uncomfortable and at the same time annoying since I can't help but assume that Zane is watching me the whole time.Not only that,the whole class is interested in me.I took the risk and looked around just in time to see Jean who was sitting on a corner.From here I can see her clearly but that's not all,I saw a scratch on her cheek and a bruise on her neck that wasn't there this morning.She was bullied.I glared at Zane.

"You really are an idiot!"I mad-whispered to him.

"What did I do?I already apologized for this morning."He whispered back.

"Jean was bullied earlier and you didn't even help her!"

"What?I didn't know that."He glanced at Jean's direction.

"Oh you didn't know?You didn't know that she was being bullied by your so called popular group long before I came!"

"It's not my group!I was just with them this morning."I just stared at him.Is there another popular group?

"Then who did that to Jean?"I'm glad that it's not Zane because I swear if it was him,I'd take the life that I had given him.

"That's what I want to know too."

"I swear Zane,if-"We heard a cough.

When we looked up,we just realized that everyone is paying attention to us.The teacher also stopped talking and was glaring at us.

"Mr. Nixon and Ms. Sirene,please attend to your argument later on.There's still 10 minutes left so please bear with it for a while before I give you detention."The teacher continued the lecture.I shrugged at Zane who smiled at me.

When the class was over,I called over to Jean but she rushed out of the room.I realized that she's avoiding me for my own protection but that's not what I want.I looked at Zane.

"Catch her for me.I can't run."Zane scowled at me but went after her anyway after dumping his bag on my arm.I followed them slowly and found them at a staircase with Jean standing there quietly with her blushing face and Zane guarding her.

"Jean don't ignore me just because you're being bullied.I won't allow that."I went down the stair but every step I made,make my feet wobble.Was Zane really that heavy?

"But they were worse this morning when they saw me together with you and Zane."Jean's voice is close to a whisper.So that's the case,girls jealousy is really scary.

"Girls jealousy is really scary.Am I really that handsome?"Zane said.I shot him a glare.
