The Love in Between

Chapter 1

Once upon a time,a mermaid saved a human prince and fell in love with him.Wanting to see the human prince again,she went to the sea witch and begged her to turn her into human,her wish was granted and she went to find her prince.She found the prince and they fell in love then lived happily ever after.

"Lies!"I threw the book away and swam away.

It's true that mermaids exist for I,Luna Aquata,am also a mermaid myself.I'm a princess just like in the story that the humans made and that legend about that mermaid princess is true,only the ending was a tragedy.The Little Mermaid did turn to human but it was not her whom the prince got married to,it was with another human princess from another human kingdom.The little mermaid was heart-broken and instead of going back to her home,she chose to die and turned to bubbles.

When I was young,I hated humans for that story but when I was 6,I saved a human boy myself from drowning when I was playing near the fishing nets of the humans,freeing the fishes and tricking the humans.That was also the time when I ran away from my lessons.It was sunny that day and when I was looking up to look at the sun,I saw a shadow pass then heard a big splash.By the time that I turned around,a human boy was already sinking right in front of me.Without a second thought,I grabbed him and pulled him to the surface to an isolated beach.Upon inspecting,the boy have wounds all over him and he was barely breathing.So to save him,I took off my necklace that my grandmother gave me and laid it on his chest then closed my palm over it.It shone and it started healing the boy.By the time that I was done,I heard voices.I was in a rush that I forgot my necklace.I'd swim to that same spot where I saved the boy and sometimes I'd see him there,he was wearing my necklace but he changed the string with chains,so the round glass with violet water and my personal sign floating inside was hanging on it.But then I never saw him again and that was the end of the story of my first love,another tragedy.That's why I understood then,what that little mermaid felt.I sighed,that was 11 years ago.I'd never forget that grey eyes and black hair of his.Come to think of it,he was really handsome,I bet he has human girls ogling over him now with that look of his or maybe he has a lover now.I wonder how he's doing now?Does he still-

"My Lady."I looked up to see the royal secretary,Urn.I frowned,Urn is also my teacher.

"Urn,I finished studying already.Let me swim for a while."

"That's not it,My Lady.The King wants to see you."I raised my eyebrow in question.

"Father?That's rare."I followed Urn as he led me to the main castle.

I don't call the King, daddy or dad,Father is enough to be formal since I'm not really that close to him.He has 10 concubines excluding my mother so I also have many siblings.I won't tell how many we are because I doubt that there are others out there as well.There are many candidates for the throne but since my mother,the queen,is the only one my father married,I'm also the only legal heir.So unlike my siblings,I was raised strictly while they have all the fun in the ocean but being the heir also gained me their hate and jealousy.At least they didn't attempt to kill me but they did leave me friendless.

"Your Majesty."I bowed to my father then smiled at my mother.

My mother is no different from my father.She couldn't care less on what I was doing.Unlike my other siblings,I grew up barely seeing my mother.I'm a royalty but I grew up with fishes as a playmate and servants as company that resulted with me feeling nothing but loneliness and emptiness.The only time I felt anything was when I met that boy and when the head servant,Rina,was the one in charge of me.Eventually,Rina died of old age.My happy feelings went with them when they left.I never attempted to make friends again,half the reason is because I also don't want them to be targeted by my jealous siblings.I never complained and kept everything inside.

Aside from that,I have my mothers golden hair,red full lips and slender,graceful body.While I have the deep blue eyes of my father.The rest of my body developed by itself.Both my parents have green tails while I have violet but I was told that when I was born,it was colored white like the moon so my father named me Luna,meaning moon,it was meant to signify that I'll have great wisdom and turn to a better ruler like the goddess Athena in the Greek mythology and Urn became my teacher,despite being the royal secretary,to bear witness and I was told by my mother that he always bring back excellent report to them but why do I find studying boring.

"Luna!It has been a while."My,cheerful as always,father greeted.I just nodded.

"I was told you wanted to see me,Your Majesty?"

"No need for the formality,I am your father after all."He chuckled.My mother smiled.

"Of course,father."He beckoned me to sit.

"I called you here to discuss about that necklace that you lost 10 years ago."Their expression turned serious.I frowned,that was 10 years ago.

"My necklace?"That was merely a gift from my grandmother.

"As you know,your grandmother was also an oracle.She gave you that necklace not merely for accessory but because it absorbs and controls your power."I got more confused.

Of course to be a ruler,you have to have power or magic as the humans call.Me and my siblings,as a direct descendants of a king,have the power to control water just like our father.I'm the exception since I'm the heir,I learned to make use of the water to give me what I need.For example,legs maybe.

"I don't understand.What does that necklace have to do with anything?"

"Luna,your powers are different from us and your siblings.We did not choose you as heir merely because of your wisdom but also because you inherited your grandmother's ability."This time it was my mother who spoke.Her voice is always gentle as always.

"You mean,I'm also an oracle?"

"No,you inherited her power to control both water and thunder,you can create a storm whenever you want with that and that necklace served as the one that controls your power and it also absorbed a bit of your power.We're worried that you might lose control of your powers and destroy the kingdom since you haven't had that necklace for a long time."My father explained.I tensed.Now I see where this is going.They're going to find that necklace,if that happens and if that boy still have it,he'll be killed.My father never shows mercy to human.I can't let that happen.

"You don't understand,that necklace was only given to me to heal sickness and wounds."

"It was already confirmed that,that's not the only use for that.So we'll have someone go and search for it,we only need your information on where you lost it."I thought of something.

"If what you say is true then let me go and search for it in the human world.I don't want anyone else touching it.You said that I'm smart so I'm sure that I can take care of myself."They looked at each other.

"Very well but we're sending someone with you."I left my sit.

"No need,it would only slow me down."

This is one of their selfish thoughts.If I get that necklace,I would be a perfect ruler and no doubt that when I return,I'd be crowned Queen already.
