Ev POV - Time period: High school
I woke up to an elbow in the ribs. I blinked the sleep out of my eyes and saw that the elbow belonged to Drew. He was lying on top of me and still asleep. My arm was resting on his bare back and I tried to move without waking him but failed.
"Morning," he mumbled, he wiped his eyes and saw that I was smiling, "what is it?"
"Nothing, I'm just happy. I know we're going to have to make a decision and it's June, but we're going to be good."
He looked away and started to play with the dog tag necklace that he had gotten me on my birthday seven years ago.
"You can't know that. You're going to Pen State and I'm going to San Francisco. We're probably going to break up because the distance is to much to handle."
"Who shoved a stick up your ass?"
He smiled and looked me in the eye for the first time all morning "You last night."
"I'm being serious!" I groaned and sat up. He was still laughing and I rolled my eyes. I stood and I knew this would be a conversation that we would have soon. The little felt box in the second row bottom right corner of my dresser would make sure of that.
It had been sitting there since Christmas. I bought it on a whim. It was never supposed to leave my room and was definitely never supposed to actually be used. But the more I thought about the ring and how much I loved him, the more it became a possibility. I was sure I was going to propose three months ago in march. Then we had an argument over something stupid and I held off for all of April. Then I chickened out in May and was finally going to do it in June. But it was June and I was running out of time.

"Ev, I need to talk to you," Lily said later that night as she grabbed my hand and dragged me into her room. I didn't say anything letting her drag me. I already knew what she was going to ask. For a twelve year old, she was actually pretty smart.
"Did you do it?" She questioned when the door shut behind me.
"If I had proposed I would have told you. That was your one condition, remember?"
Yes, Lily knew about the proposal. She actually helped me pick out the rings. She walked in on me looking for one and like all little sisters, she threatened to tell Mom and Dad knowing they wouldn't approve. She was actually really helpful. Who knew there were different sizes for rings and different widths for each band.
"Lil, you'll know when I ask. Even if he says no. And I think I'll do it tomorrow." As I finished her face lit up and she peppered me with questions. I told her she would have to wait to find out. She flopped onto her bed whining about how no one ever tells her anything. I chuckled and left the room, Lily still whining behind me.
The next day, I opened my front door to Drew with a shit eating grin on his face.
"You ready?" He asked, already pulling me to his car.
"Would it matter if I said no?"
He ignored me and went into the Driver's seat. As I slid in the passengers side, he had turned on the engine and the music.
"Hurry up! The drive is already two hours!" He complained while I shut my door.
"Well then you better start driving,"
We were going to the New Jersey Shore. When we were kids we had made a promise to go to the shore when we graduated. We graduate in two weeks and we still hadn't gone. We decided today was the day that we finally fulfilled that promise.
The drive down was normal. We talked about some serious stuff like if either of us ever wanted kids (yes him, maybe me). If we wanted pets (yes from both of us). What our plan b's were, (coaching college football or higher but plan A was the NFL). Finally, if we ever wanted to get married. He did.
When we got there it was late. We walked the boardwalk and played games at some of the stands. I got a foam football and lost ten dollars to the ski ball stand. Drew did a lot of watching and made comments about how I sucked at ski ball.
We made our way down to the beach as the sun was setting as I had planned. I wasn't a romantic, but it was pretty easy to set up a proposal when all you need is a ring and someone to give it to. The beach was almost empty and the only people here were so far away they were practically dots, so we had more then enough privacy.
Drew started talking about something but I tuned it out because I was starting to get nervous.
What if he said no?
It was unlikely but not impossible. We had been dating since forever. Most people said that we were probably going to get married, but what did they know?
"Ev? Are you even listening?" Drew sighed, annoyed.
Instead of answering I looked to the ground and saw the foam football.
I picked it up and tossed it back and forth. "Want to catch?" He raised an eyebrow but got to his feet and started to run.
"Wait!" I called after him, "Walk slowly. I'll tell you when to stop."
Another weird look and then he began to walk. I pulled the box out of my pocket and got on one knee. I took a deep breath and told him to stop. He turned around a few feet away and his jaw dropped as he saw me.
"Andrew Garcia Cavero, will you marry me?"
Hi! We're back and we're starting with a blast from the past! This hiatus was much needed and more will be had in the future, but I missed posting! Please vote/comment and guess Drew's answer! - Naomi❤️ 😊
