Drew POV -
Time period: High school
Chapter song: moon and back by JVKE
He was in front of me. On one knee. Proposing. And all I could say was, "Wait, actually!?"
"Actually!" He said with a grin.
"Of course I'll marry you!" I ran up to him and tackled him to the ground in a hug. Once he got back up he was laughing as he put the ring on my finger. It was solid silver with nothing on it except an inscription on the bottom. It wrote,
From ERO to AJGC, Love you forever.
It was cheesy and stupid and I loved it. He plopped on the ground and looked...relieved.
"What's wrong?" I questioned, sitting next to him.
"I thought you were going to say no. How you were talking yesterday. Like it was done. We were done."
I tried not to let my face show my emotions. He was right. I thought we were going to break up and I thought that was what he wanted but didn't want to hurt me. I know the distance will be hard, but we can do it. I know we can. I didn't think we could, but if he gave me this ring, then we could figure out a way to make this work, right?
The entire way home we talked about the wedding. Nothing flashy, nothing big. We'll probably do it somewhere close. In suits from Macys and food from wherever is closest. The only thing I'm worried about, is my family. My mom is pretty good. My brother is at college a few hours away and he doesn't care who I'm with as long as I don't make him an uncle before I'm twenty. But I was worried about my grandparents. I had never told them specifically that I was with a guy. They were devote Catholic's and so was the rest of my family. Most likely, the only family I would have there would be my mom and my brother. Unless my Dad showed up for the first time in years.
We decided to tell our families the next weekend. We wanted to enjoy just having this between the two of us for a little bit longer.
"What kind of ring do you want?" I questioned as we pulled into his driveway.
"I don't need one. I can use one that I already have."
"No, you got me a ring and I really want to get one for you."
He had driven us back so switched seats. I tried to close the door, but he caught it opened it just large enough to get lean in.
"Good night fiancé." he said before pulling me in for a kiss. It lasted long. Like we were about to go full on make out until I noticed his mom looking out the window.
I pulled away with a sigh, "Your mom is watching us, and I can't stay outside your house making out with you all night."
"Your right. You can come into my house and do more than make out all night."
My face instantly turned red and I looked away. "You know what I mean. I have to go."
He looked over my face one more time and then smiled.
"Goodnight fiancé."
"Goodnight Everette."
Ev rolled his eyes and walked inside. I couldn't stop the grin that had made its way onto my face.
"What's got you so happy, Mijo?" My mom asked as I came into the living room.
I failed to tamp down my excitement but still replied as nonchalantly as I could. "Nothing Mama. I just had a good day, that's all" I left the living room and went to the kitchen.
