It was a Friday evening when Nathan finally asked her out. They had stayed late to finish up a campaign pitch, the office nearly empty except for the two of them. As they wrapped up, Nathan leaned against her desk, his eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief.
"I know we've been trying to keep things low-key," he began, "but what do you say we go out for dinner tonight? Just... you and me."
Emily paused, caught off guard by the sudden invitation. She had been waiting for this moment but hadn't expected it to happen so soon. Still, the thought of spending time with Nathan outside the office—without the pressures of work hanging over them—was tempting.
"I'd like that," she said, smiling.
They ended up at a cozy Italian restaurant tucked away in a quiet corner of the city. The atmosphere was warm and intimate, with soft lighting and the sound of clinking glasses filling the air. For the first time in weeks, Emily felt like she could relax, like the weight of their professional lives had been lifted, even if just for a night.
Over dinner, they talked about everything but work—about their childhoods, their families, their dreams. Nathan opened up about his love for painting again, telling Emily about the studio he had at home where he would occasionally paint when the mood struck him.
"You should show me sometime," Emily said, her curiosity piqued.
Nathan grinned. "Maybe I will."
The evening passed in a blur of laughter and conversation, and by the time they left the restaurant, Emily felt like she had seen a new side of Nathan—a side that made her want to know even more.
