The seasons changed, and so did their relationship. They had faced the challenges of keeping their romance quiet, braved the whispers of their colleagues, and found a balance between work and love. Now, standing on the cusp of something new, Nathan knew it was time to take the next step.

It was a cold autumn evening when Nathan invited Emily over for dinner. They had been together for nearly a year now, and the future had been on his mind for weeks. He had planned everything perfectly—right down to the tiny details of the evening.

Emily arrived, bundled up in her coat, smiling as she stepped into the warmth of his apartment. But something about the way Nathan looked at her tonight felt different. His eyes held a softness that made her heart flutter.

They sat down for dinner, but Emily couldn't shake the feeling that something was about to happen. Nathan was nervous, she could tell, and her curiosity piqued as the evening wore on.

After dinner, Nathan led her out onto his balcony, where the city's skyline stretched out before them. The stars twinkled above, and the crisp night air added a sense of magic to the moment. Nathan stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist as they looked out at the view.

"Emily," he began, his voice soft but steady. "This past year has been the best of my life. We've built something here—something strong, something real. I don't want to imagine my life without you in it."

Emily turned to face him, her heart pounding in her chest. She saw the sincerity in his eyes, the way his hands shook slightly as he held hers.

Nathan reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box, opening it to reveal a sparkling diamond ring. Emily's breath caught in her throat as her eyes widened in surprise.

"I love you, Emily," Nathan said, his voice filled with emotion. "Will you marry me?"

Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at him, unable to speak for a moment. She had dreamed of this moment, but now that it was here, it felt even more perfect than she had imagined. The city lights twinkled around them, and all she could see was him—the man who had become her partner, her love, her everything.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice shaky with emotion. "Yes, Nathan, I'll marry you."

Nathan's face lit up with joy as he slipped the ring onto her finger. He pulled her into his arms, kissing her deeply as the stars above them seemed to shine a little brighter. In that moment, the world felt perfect, and Emily knew that their future—together—was just beginning
