The next morning, Emily woke up with a mixture of excitement and dread swirling in her chest. Last night had been... everything. But now, with the sunlight streaming through her bedroom window, reality was starting to creep in.
What had they done?
She sat up in bed, running a hand through her hair as she replayed the events of the previous evening. The kiss. The way Nathan had held her. The undeniable chemistry between them.
But now, with the clarity of daylight, all the complications were coming back to the surface. They worked together. They had a professional relationship that was now undeniably tangled with something much more personal.
Emily sighed, pulling her knees to her chest. She liked Nathan—more than liked him—but was this really the right move? What would people at the office think? How would this affect their work together?
Her phone buzzed on the nightstand, pulling her out of her thoughts. It was a message from Nathan.
"Morning. Coffee later?"
Emily smiled despite herself. Nathan's straightforwardness was one of the things she liked most about him. He didn't shy away from things once they were out in the open.
"Sure," she texted back. "See you at noon."
As she got ready for the day, Emily tried to push away her worries. She would talk to Nathan, figure out how they were going to handle things. It was still early—they could take it slow, see where things went.
But deep down, she knew that things between them had already changed. And there was no turning back now.
