NOVEMBER 11, 5:37PM

It had been almost 5 days since Laurie had seen Janet again, she didn't show up for any of her meals. One day Laurie asked Y/n why and all she did was chuckle and said "Teenager issues", whatever that meant. Yes, Laurie was worried about Janet, but she cared a lot more about getting out of that hell hole of a home and getting as far away from Michael as she can get. Yes, she wanted more than anything to kill him, but she'd have to wait for now. There's no way Y/n would let that happen, not after how long she's waited for his escape, she wouldn't let anything bad happen to him now. Laurie still couldn't wrap her head around Y/N being on Michael's side, after everything he's put her through, the kidnapping, and Michael killing her friends, she was somehow- in love with him? Laurie closed her eyes and swallowed hard trying not to vomit, how could anyone be in love with a monster like him?

As much as she wanted to know how the hell that happened, escaping was a lot more important. Since Janet's left her alone she's been working up a plan on how to escape, and she knows it will work, it just has to be timed perfectly. There was a small window hidden behind a large wardrobe closet down in the basement, it was big enough for Laurie to squeeze through it. Y/n would come down to the basement every hour to check on Laurie, and she's been keeping track of when she does it. And in between, she's been moving the wardrobe cabinet back and looking out the window at the surroundings. It was the back yard, the whole place was fenced in but Laurie could see a gate on the far right of the yard, almost out of sight, that was her way out. All she needed was something to pry the window open, it was stuck shut by all the rust caked on it. But Laurie managed to steal a butter knife from the kitchen drawer that crispy cold morning, while Y/n took Janet and Michael's breakfast upstairs. Michael has been avoiding Laurie, probably because he still wanted to kill her and was trying not to because of Y/n.

It was almost evening and in just 4 minutes Y/n was going to come down to the basement to check on Laurie, so she laid there on the couch, acting like she was resting and reading. The door opened right on cue and Y/n poked her head in and looked at Laurie. She gave her a small smile and closed the door back. Laurie held her breath as she listened to her footsteps going back up the stairs, she then heard the door close and the bookshelf moved back into place. Laurie jumped off the couch and grabbed the butter knife she had hidden in between the cushions. She grabbed the chair from the small dining table and moved it behind the wardrobe in front of the small window. She carefully stood on top of it and started slicing away the rust with the knife. To her relief, the rust came off very easily, and after about a few minutes she could finally open the window. It made a small squeak when she did making her freeze for a moment, she did not want to risk getting caught. She wouldn't know what Y/n would do to her if she caught her trying to escape, she'd probably give her to Michael, and that's not how she was gonna go out.

The smell of the cold air was enough to get the adrenalin pumping in her veins, and made her even more eager to leave, she hadn't smelled the outside in so long, she hasn't seen the sun in so long, it was all she was craving right now; freedom.

She used all the strength she had and pry it open with both of her hands, as wide as it would go. She reached her hands out and grabbed a handful of the grass, digging her fingers into the dirt and using all her strength to pull her up. And to her relief she easily slithered through the window, like a snake. Her heart was pumping with so much excitement, as her dreams of being free was about to come true.

Someone grabbed Laurie's ankle and yanked on it hard, she looked down to see Y/n yelling and screaming at her angrily as she pulled on her. "GET BACK IN HERE LAURIE!!" She screamed. "NO!" Laurie said shaking her head, there was no way she was going back down there.

I haven't left my room in almost 5 days, don't want to be around my mother, I don't like how she's been acting.

She's sick, that's my only explanation for why she's acting the way she is. This whole murdering shit and my father escaping the mental hospital is just making her loose her mind, and she doesn't even know it. I can't stand to see her or my father, it just shows the reality of my whole fucked up life right now. My father's a deranged killer, and my mother is deranged as well. Why did I have to be born into this fucked up family? Why is this happening to me?

I sat up fast in my bed, someone was yelling downstairs, it was my mother- but who's she yelling at? Then I heard Laurie's voice, but it was coming from the back yard. Wait! Is she-

I jumped out of my bed and ran downstairs as fast as I could to the basement. Laurie was halfway out of a small window, that giant wardrobe closet must've been hiding it. My mother was tugging on her legs as hard as she could trying to pull her back in, she saw me standing there. "Quick Janet! Come and help me pull her back inside!" She told me.

I did nothing and stood there watching this all play out.

"JANET! DO AS I SAY!" My mother yelled at me.

I still didn't move.

"LET GO OF ME YOU CRAZY BITCH!" I heard Laurie scream from outside of the window. "NO! YOU'RE NOT GONNA FUCK THIS FAMILY UP! I'VE WAITED 16 YEARS!" My mother screamed back, now pulling even harder.

"I'M NOT YOUR FUCKING FAMILY!!!" Laurie screamed, she then pulled one of her legs free from my mother's grasp and kicked her so hard in the face she fell back on the ground. Laurie's legs slid out of the window, I could now hear her footsteps running on the grass outside. My mom was on the floor groaning in pain holding her nose, there was blood all over her hands and face. I ran over to her and tried to help her stand up, but she shoved me away. "MICHAEL!" she screamed at the top of her lungs. Heavy footsteps were coming down the basement stairs, my father stood there in his full attire and mask, his knife clenched in his hand. He looked from my mother to the open window, and ran back up the stairs, as if knowing exactly what to do.

I grabbed some paper towels off of the small kitchen table and gave them to my mother. She took them slowly standing up and wiping her face. "Dammit Janet! Why didn't you just do what I tell you to do?" She asked me angrily. I didn't answer, it felt like every emotion that I've been trying to keep in was about erupt out of me like a volcano, and it did, before I knew it I was crying and my mother was holding me as I sobbed into her chest. "I'm so sorry baby don't cry." She said softly trying to calm me down. "Why is this happening to me?" I said in between my sobs. "I'm sorry Janet, this is all my fault." My mother said, she was crying now. "I just wanted to try to make things right for you, I wanted to give you a normal family." She said sadly. I stopped crying and was calming down, "What about any of this shit is normal to you mom?! My dad's a serial killer, you kidnapped my aunt and kept her prisoner in this basement, and now you're loosing it to!" I said angrily. I was expecting her to get mad at me for yelling and cussing but she just hung her head in shame. "I thought if you had both of us in your life it would make it better. My father divorced my mother and they separated when I was your age, things just weren't the same after that. I guess I just wanted it to be different for you, maybe you'd be more happier."

She sighed, "I guess I was wrong, I only made things worse. I'm so sorry Janet."

I didn't know what to say, my mom's never talked about her mother or father, this was starting to make since now, but not everything.

"Mom, how did you meet him and why are you in love with him?" I asked her without thinking. She sighed and sat down in the chair that Laurie used to escape through the window. "It's complicated Janet, I don't know why I'm in love with him, I just am. I swear he's a good person, if you just look past all of the stuff he's done." She said, she barely answered any of my questions. I don't even think she knows what she's saying right now.

It was darker and I could hear someone running through the grass outside the small window. "What's he gonna do mom?" I asked walking over to the window. She stood up now closing it, "I-I don't know Janet." She said not looking at me.

"He's gonna kill her isn't he?"

"I didn't say that Janet." She said calmly. "Come on let's get out of this basement, we can talk more about it upstairs." She said walking past me and out of the room. I took one last look at the small window and followed her out the room.
