Sorry for the angsty chapter, here's a little fluff to ease off on the bitter ♡
Nikolai jerked upwards as he panted and wiped away his cold sweat. He curled himself up into a ball and shuddered violently. It was pitch black and it was racking up his nerves more.
"Niki, are you okay? What's wrong big guy?" A light from a lamp turned on and Felix sat up to see Nikolai better.
'Feli..'
Nikolai lunged at Felix pulling him into a bear hug. He peppered kisses all over him as he sobbed loudly and saying incoherent words that was a mixture of both Russian and English. He clawed at Felix's back softly as if he couldn't get enough of him, as if he needed to be closer.
Felix was immediately concerned about his husband's distress. He rubbed his back and made shushing noises. He pulled him close and kissed his forehead in an attempt to calm him down. After a few minutes of just hiccuping, Felix lifted his face to meet his gaze and wiped his eyes from leftover tears.
"What happened Niki?" Nikolai averted his gaze and responded softly.
"H... horrible dream. Bad, bad things happen. You..." He hiccuped. "you got shot and died. Deti, our kids... tortured and forget you, about our family. Got caught by Soviets, they messed with kids' minds. So... so very dark. Very sad." He started to shake violently and hugged Felix tightly.
Just then, the door busted open and a small girl ran in and jumped onto the bed crying and gasping. She hugged Felix desperately while crying loudly.
"Dima? You too? Oh honey..." Felix hugged both his husband and his daughter as they both sobbed into Felix's chest.
"It was awful daddy!!" Dima cried. "These bad men took us away and hurt us so much. These other mean people took us away and told us lies that we were not Americans and that we did not have you daddy! The others believed them and began saying mean and bad things too! Papa looked so sad, and... and you were gone!! I couldn't find you daddy!! I was so scared!!!"
'Wow, what a night.' Felix sighed as they both continued to clutch onto him. The lights in the hallway flicked on and patters of feet started heading towards the bedroom. In the lead was Nikolai's papa with a sour face, he had been visiting to help with the household while Nikolai and Felix recovered. Then, two identical boys peeped their heads into the room curious as to what was going on.
"Nightmares I see." Dedushka huffed and looked at Felix with pity.
"Post war nightmares." Felix elaborated. He pulled off Nikolai and Dima off of him so that they could see his face. "Do you remember what really happened you guys?"
They both looked at him blank faced too tired and too spooked to respond. He sighed and pulled his hair back.
"Well, papa took you guys to go see babushka, remember that?" Both looked at him and nodded. "So, the bad guys came, but your papa fought them off. He had beaten up all the bad guys that tried to take you, and immediately took you guys back home when they ran away! So none of you were taken. Then, papa and I were called to go to Europe to fight those bad guys. Dedushka and Charlie had to take care of you guys."
"I remember that. We had to eat cabbage soup every Saturday." Dima stuck out her tongue in disgust.
"Chto? It is good for growing children." Dedushka huffed a little while a smile crept up his face.
"After we were sent to war, we fought a really big battle in Berlin."
"And you got shot." Nikolai looked at Felix intently. He subconsciously brushed over the place where the bullet hit his chest. Felix gave him a sheepish lopsided grin.
"At least he wasn't a sub human. Or else I would have been in big trouble!" Nikolai's frowned deepened at the joke. "Sorry, bad joke I know. Although, we should have worried about your eye. You're lucky the knife only grazed under your cheek." Felix leaned in close to him and held the area where the knife grazed. Nikolai closed his eyes and pressed up against his hand relishing in the touch. He then took his hand and started kissing the palm lightly. Felix blushed and hid behind his other hand while watching Nikolai intently.
"Okay, son. Let Felix finish story. Continue please."
"R-right, uhm-" Nikolai gave it a final kiss as he let go of the hand. Felix gained his bearings and continued on."So we finally won the war after that day! And in the process not only did we save the world, but our little world expanded too." Felix looked into the doorway where the twin boys still stood. Both the boys straightened at the sudden attention they were getting. "Would you both like to join our snuggle party, Gregory and Klaus?"
Both boys gave each other side glances. One shrugged and they both climbed onto the bed. Either boy sat next to Dima and she wrapped them both into a hug. All three giggled while the adults smiled in content.
"So, do you two feel better now? I think that's a better story than what you two had."
"Hmmmm... I guess, but can I stay here for tonight?"
"Us too!" The boys interjected.
Felix looked to Nikolai and they both smiled. "Of course you can! Do you want a goodnight song too?" All three kids nodded their heads in excitement. Even Nikolai had a smile spread over his face, eager to listen to his favorite song.
Felix got up to retrieve his ukulele. Dedushka at that point bid them all goodnight as he headed to bed. He picked up the old worn out ukulele. There was a note inscribed on the back of it that his late mother wrote.
Live out your life in happiness, my little Daffodil,
~Mommy ❤
'I'm the happiest I've ever been mom. I miss you.' He thought. He walked back to the expectant audience. He sat back down onto the bed and was immediately enveloped between all four of them. Dima was on his chest behind the ukulele, Nikolai was behind him giving him a bear hug, and the twins were on either side of him. He strummed the cords, and began to sing.
The End~
A/N: That is probably the last of the Nikolai and Felix chapters (I dunno if I should make more or not). Sorry aboot the last chapter tho. That WAS the original ending for this, but too many people were shook aboot it, so here you go! It was just a bad dream!
Don't worry! Dmitri doesn't get brainwashed after all of this and he still has a very close relationship with his dad! Although Dima was giving him the stink eye and was very protective over Felix for several weeks. Dmitri was both confused and upset aboot the situation since he couldn't be around him without Nikolai or Dima guarding him from everything.
Yes Felix got shot in the chest, but it wasn't fatal. It still hurt however and he was not allowed to leave the bed for a week without wrestling Nikolai over it after they got back home. Originally he was fine with chilling in bed, but after a while he tried to sneak out the window to get away from the excessive smothering. After several failed attempts and falling out of the two story window TWICE, Nikolai complied only that he would be there to help.
Anyway I hope you're doing well wherever you are and I'll catch you on the flip side!
Sending Warm Hugs,
Phr0gg0 L0rd
