Y/n and her fifteen-year-old brother, Liam, had been spending their day together, playing games, watching Disney movies and snacking on their favorite junk food. Their parents were out all day and would be back after dark, as they had a work-business meeting that took place in another city.
Sprawled across the couch with her legs across Liam's, Y/n laughed at their current televised entertainment that was Despicable Me. Throughout the last ten or so hours, Liam and Y/n had baked and decorated cupcakes, watched several movies, played multiple boardgames and made a giant Lego building. By the time their sixth movie for the day had finished, both siblings had become slightly restless.
"Li? Can we do something else?" Y/n whined, looking to her brother. Liam scooped Y/n up by her legs and hung her upside down from his shoulder, letting her back rest on his.
"Sure thing, munchkin. What is it you want to do?" Liam inquired, swinging his hips in a way that caused Y/n to sway from side to side behind him. Y/n giggled loudly, trying to get a grip on her brother's t-shirt to stop herself from moving about. Finally, Liam placed her on the ground and she wobbled slightly before gaining her balance back and skipping to the closet in the hall, around the corner.
"Let's make a pillow and blanket fort!" Y/n decided, ripping piles of neatly folded blankets from the shelves and destroying her mother's hard work and organization. Liam just watched as his little sister ran back and forth between the closet and the couch, and eventually the couch had a mountain of cushions and unfolded blankets, leaving the closet shelves bare.
"Alright, how're we building this thing? Go get your paper and crayons, and draw the fort exactly how you want it, so I can make it for you." Liam commanded, and Y/n just shrugged, prancing to her bedroom and returning with the requested materials. After a few serious minutes of sketching, debating and difficult decisions about designs, the fort was ready to be built. Liam stacked a large bunch of thick cushions in such an arrangement that he could then drape a blanket over the top and it'd be a cave, and for the final touch, Y/n added some teddy bears and a few picture books.
"Let's read a story now, Liam! You can pick one this time," Y/n smiled up at her brother, patting the space beside her for him to occupy. Liam felt an electronic vibration in his back pocket and pulled out his mobile phone.
"One second, Y/n. I've got a text from mum and dad." Liam checked the message and his eyes widened in surprise. "They said they'll be home in five minutes."
"What?! We have to clean all our mess!" Y/n gestured to the living area, and her and Liam looked around at all the messes they'd made all day. Lego pieces spread out across the lounge room floor with a large creation in the middle, the huge pillow and blanket fort right in the middle of the room, and many unused blankets still dumped on the couch and some on the floor. The kitchen was a disaster; cupcake batter was dripped all over the bench and sprinkles scattered across the tiled floor, a tub of ice cream was still sitting on the countertop beside two sets of dirty bowls and spoons. The dining room table was covered in boardgame boxes and dirty dishes from snacks earlier on in the day, and the floor was littered with crumbs of all sorts.
"Oh, dear..." Liam sighed, glancing around the area once more before turning to Y/n. "Y/n, you tidy the Lego and pack away the boardgames, and I'll clean the kitchen and fold the blankets. Deal?"
"Deal." Y/n agreed, and she jumped up to meet her outstretched hand with Liam's as he held his out for a high five. The pair of them set off to complete their separate tasks, and in four minutes, everything was done except for the crumb-covered floors and unwashed dishes. Liam tackled the dishes while Y/n attempted to vacuum the floor, though the handy machine was a little too heavy for her and she eventually swapped jobs with Liam.
When Karen and Geoff arrived, Liam and Y/n were seated on the couch in the now spotless house, and Liam was reading a picture book to Y/n.
"What did you guys get up to today?" Karen asked, and Liam and Y/n looked to each other with grins painted across their faces.
"Not a lot..." Y/n shrugged innocently, causing Liam to snicker until she nudged his arm.
